The Timeline of Modern Natopia chronicles the major political, constitutional, military, and imperial events in Natopia from the reintegration of the divided empire in 1716 AN to the present day. This period, designated by Natopian historians as the "Modern Era," encompasses the reunification of Eastern Natopia and Western Natopia under Vadoma I, the subsequent constitutional reforms establishing the bicameral Frenzy, and the imperial succession following Vadoma's death in 1752 AN.

The timeline draws upon official records, constitutional documents, and scholarly consensus to present an accurate and comprehensive account of events that shaped contemporary Natopian society. Entries are organized chronologically by year and, where possible, by specific date using the Norton calendar format (day.month.year).

Background

A map of Eastern Natopia; 1715 AN.
A map of Western Natopia; 1715 AN.

The Division of the Natopian Empire began in 1707 AN when Emperor Nathan III proposed splitting the Bovic Empire of the Natopian Nation into two co-equal viceroyalties. The Emperor reasoned that the cultural, demographic, and economic differences between the territories east and west of the River Egale had grown so pronounced that a single imperial administration could not adequately serve both regions. The demesnes east of the River Egale were organized into Eastern Natopia, while those to the west became Western Natopia. A national referendum in 1708 AN approved the division, and the constitutional process separating the empire into two sovereign states concluded in 1709 AN. Nathan III retained the title of Emperor of the Natopians while serving as Eastern Emperor, and Vadoma I and Edward I served as Co-Emperors in the West.

Despite the formal sovereignty vested in both governments, the Imperial Council of Natopia at the federal level came to exert increasing influence over the coordination of common economic, social, military, and diplomatic policies. The developing de facto reunion was made official when Nathan III died suddenly in 1716 AN. Vadoma I succeeded him to the Eastern Natopian throne, reuniting both crowns under the same Natopian sovereign. Nathan's funeral on 10.IV.1716 AN became a watershed moment: media and politicians from both West and East mourned the loss of their emperor. Nathan was not an Eastern emperor; he was a Natopian emperor.

The overwhelming consensus among Natopian historians, political scientists, and sociologists holds that Nathan III's death, and the subsequent reintegration, marks the true beginning of "Modern Natopia." The division, though legally sound, had proven to be an artificial separation of a fundamentally unified people. The grief that united East and West in 1716 AN demonstrated that Natopian national identity transcended administrative boundaries. The constitutional framework established during reintegration, later reformed in 1751 AN with the creation of the Upper Frenzy, remains the foundation of Natopian governance today.
