The Western Natopian Demesnial Forces (WNDF) is the demesnal defence force of Western Natopia, tasked with fulfilling the obligations of the demesnal realm with regards to defence and security under the Caprine Code and the Constitution of Western Natopia. Established by following the division of the Natopian Empire, the WNDF replaced previous ad hoc and unofficial defence arrangements. The purpose of the WNDF therefore is to defend the territorial integrity of Western Natopia against incursions from the Green and neighbouring states whilst also to patrol and protect the territorial waters and airspace of the realm. The WNDF would also serve as an auxiliary force available to the Natopian Defense Force and Natopian Security Forces elements deployed to Cibola under the command of the Continental Theatre Command of the Raspur Pact. The WNDF would also serve as an auxiliary force in Apollonia and western Tapfer, although in these regions the need, owing to the easing of the absence or easing of regional tensions, was less immediately accute.
As of 1713 AN the WNDF was in embryonic form and under the authority of the First Consul, Ernesto de la Cruz, pending major command decisions as to its composition and organisational structure. The putative Secretary of Defense, Jonathan Zanhuesa, did not exercise much in the way of direct operational control of the force in its early stages, being instead focused on the considerable task of obtaining sufficient funding and materiel for the envisaged decade-long development programme for the new force.
Organisation
Overview
Because of the geographically dispersed nature of Western Natopia, the Demesne Defense Forces of the Empire, of which the Western Natopian Demesnial Forces is the core, is divided up into three territorial commands (Apollonia, Cibola, and Tapfer) under the authority of a General Staff which reports directly to the Chancellery, and which is supported by commissariat and inspectorate formations. In each territorial command the major notified settlements, that is to say the large cities which appear on the claims registered with the Micras Cartography Society, would be expected to raise and maintain a territorial defense brigade. These are to be a volunteer force, responsible for defending their communities, providing aid to the civil power in times of crisis, and for the defence of key infrastructure and lines of communication. During times of war or national emergency, all or part of the Western Natopian Demesnial Forces may be nationalised by a Frenzy resolution and placed under the temporary command of the Natopian Defense Force.

Ranks, Insignia, Uniforms & Wages
Rank structure
The ranks of the Western Natopian Demesnial Forces remained wholly consistent with those of the Natopian Defense Force; this being done for the purposes of continuity and mutual recognition as the WNDF would be expected to serve alongside and reinforce the NDF under wartime conditions. As such, the WNDF follows the rank grading system of the Raspur Pact. The most senior ranks of the WNDF, associated with the grade of OF-10, are reserved to the sovereigns of Western Natopia in peacetime.

Uniforms
Personnel with the WNDF are issued with issued olive-drab denim coveralls and a black forage cap as their standard service uniform. A number of textile manufacturers in Baudrix were encouraged to specialise in denim production during the 1720s and 1730s by a generous system of state subsidies and contracts awarded by the Director of the Commissariat for the supply of standard cut uniform overalls to the WNDF.
History
The Western Natopian Demesnial Forces can trace a line of descent back to the Most Serene Union's Armed Forces, the demesnal defence force of Most Serene Union of Dos Gardenias, which came to form one of the core demesnal unions within Western Natopia after the division of the Natopian Empire. The Most Serene Union's Armed Forces were most notable for their defence of the Apollonian enclave of Saint Andre during the War of Lost Brothers.

- XIV.6: General Staff of the Western Natopian Demesnial Forces established at Geneva.
- XIV.7:
- Territorial Commands established for Apollonia, Cibola, and Tapfer.
- Cadres for Territorial Defense Brigades established in the Tapferite Territorial Command area of operations.
- XIV.9: Cadres for Territorial Defense Brigades established in the Cibolan Territorial Command area of operations.
- XIV.10: Request submitted to the Confederate States Armed Forces of Floria to arrange for the transfer to the WNDF of any surplus armaments and other items of equipment retired from service.
- XIV.11: The Valenciennes Frontier Rifles Regiment was established as an independent force, within the Cibolan Territorial Command area of operations, tasked with the patrol of the frontier with the Cybwlach colony of Calbion.
- XIV.12: Negotiations with Nouvelle Alexandrie, conducted under the auspices of the Community of Goldfield, were reported to be at an advanced stage for the purchase of two Silver Hammer short-range missile defence batteries. The two systems, upon delivery, would be assigned to the defence of Geneva as part of an initial evaluation. Further purchases were expected to follow if the system performed satisfactorily.
- XIV.13: Orders for x6 Nemesis-class destroyers placed with West Bay NDF Shipyards. The purchase providing the first indication that the WNDF will constitute its own maritime force.
- XV.8: First consignments of surplus small arms from Floria arrive at Port Saint Andre.
- 1714 AN
- II.23: A significant order for 125,000 general purpose machine guns was placed with Luix-Satyria Scientific-Production Association LLC. Fulfillment of the order was expected to be over a period of eight years, with initial low delivery volumes whilst manufacturing capacity was developed.
- III.9: A procurement valued at three billion four hundred fifty-six million was placed with the subsidiaries of the Honourable Company to deliver eight thousand Rz.Kfz 1714 Razkampfwagen. The acquisition, split between Luix-Satyria Scientific-Production Association LLC and the Ahvaz Automotive Engineering Company of Nouvelle Alexandrie is expected to take a decade to fully complete.
- IX.18: Via a complex series of credit swaps, entitling the Imperial State of Constancia to exports of strategic materials from Western Natopia to an equivalent value, the Imperial Constancian Armed Forces undertook to transfer a significant quantity of aircraft, warships, and auxiliary vessels to the Western Demesnial Forces. Critics of the deal averred that many of the aircraft dated back, both in their design and in some cases their manufacture, to the original Euran War, whilst the maritime component would see the return of Natopian vessels previously supplied to Constancia as aid by the Natopian Defense Force. Defenders of the deal however maintained that the vessels and aircraft would go a long way towards providing the Western Natopian Demesnial Forces with the requisite mass to enable it to perform its core function of second-line territorial defence.
- XII.10: WNDF Land Warfare Requirement 1714.XII is issued. Details a requirement to procure, or obtain by other means, 8,424 artillery pieces, 21,914 armoured vehicles, and 36,000 support vehicles by 1730 AN. WNDF would have until 1718 AN to select suitable equipment types and manufacturers/suppliers.
- XII.12: Proposals made for the appointment of a Lord High Constable, reporting directly to the Chancellor, with responsibility for the oversight and control of the Western Natopian Demesnial Forces as well as the coordination of lower level demesnal forces and militias with higher authority.
- 1717 AN
- III.8: Luix-Satyria Scientific-Production Association LLC sold WNDF vehicle contracts, including associated patents and machine tools to Rusjar Mechanical Machine-Building Plant. Object 1716-WN-7 and derivatives to enter mass production during 1717 AN–1718 AN.
- VI.15: Mishalan Arsenal compensated for loss of WNFV 100 MBT contract with award of the right to fulfil all support vehicle contracts with the Snatch Land Rover and Light Utility Truck.
- 1721 AN
- VII.14: The 1721 Ludwiggian coup d'état attempt (6.VII.1721 AN – 9.VII.1721 AN) cruelly exposed the extent to which the WNDF had failed to organise the mandated admiralty and coast guard units for the Territorial Command in Cibola, with the scandal being similarly repeated in western Tapfer. Only in Apollonia, where the WNDF had inherited Neridian formations raised to defend Port Saint Andre during the War of Lost Brothers, were at least some of the assigned maritime assets proven to be operational. A number of senior officers and defence officials would be purged from their offices during the ensuing months, with many being brought to Lindstrom in chains for a public show trial.
- IX.12: Recruitment begins for the admiralty and maritime division of Territorial Command (Cibola). Applicants for officer commissions were directed to submit their applications in person at the Imperial Chancellery of Western Natopia. Posters and adverts indicated that preference would be given to retired Natopian Navy and SATCo veterans, but that recruitment was open to any man or woman aged between 18 and 60 with a "demonstrable affinity" for the sea.
- 1729 AN:
- II.10:
- Work commences on the Cibolan Boundary Survey Line.
- Ordnance Corps takes the unusual step of purchasing quantities of silver on the open market.
- II.11: Sources close to the Sacred College of the Autocephalous Nazarene Church complain to the press about "sudden and vexatious questions" from government departments that had "previously had shown less than zero interest in the divine offices".
- II.10:
- 1730 AN
- II.3: Fortress Neridia policy inaugurated. Relevant to this plan is the Tapfer Territorial Command of the WNDF, specifically the Neridian Corps of the Most Serene Union, comprising of territorial defence brigades in Eadricton, Etampes, Graveacre, and Redquill, as well as the Neridian Coastal Artillery Division.
