The Behaurnais-class amphibious assault ship is a ship class of landing helicopter assault (LHA) type amphibious assault ships designed and constructed by the Pontecorvo Firm, a leading New Alexandrian shipbuilding company and defense contractor. This class of ship is specifically tailored to meet modern demands of rapid global deployment, amphibious assault, and humanitarian assistance operations. The first of these warships was commissioned by the Federal Navy of Nouvelle Alexandrie in 1687 AN; as many as two will be built - the first one being the HMS Behaurnais, the second being the HMS San Pablo.
Ships of the Behaurnais class can be used as a small aircraft carrier with a squadron of jet fighters plus several multipurpose helicopters, such as the Javelin H-2 Siren. They can carry about 20 to 25 Javelin H-2 Siren, Javelin F-21 Heavenscream, or a mixture of the two.
Operational Role
The primary mission of the Behaurnais-class is to provide a mobile, flexible, and scalable platform for the projection of power ashore. Its well deck supports amphibious operations, including the launch and recovery of landing craft and amphibious vehicles. The class is also equipped with advanced radar and sensor suites, enhancing its capability to operate in contested environments.
Service History
Entering service in 1687 AN, the Behaurnais-class ships have quickly become a cornerstone of Nouvelle Alexandrie's naval capabilities, demonstrating their operational effectiveness in exercises and real-world deployments such as Operation Paramount and the Wars of the Dispossessed. Their design reflects a shift towards multi-role platforms capable of responding to a wide range of military and humanitarian missions.
The Riqi Elluenuuerssuarion, reeling from crippling fleet losses due to defections and enemy actions during the open stages of the Second Elwynnese Civil War, had placed orders for four ships of the type as part of the 1693 Procurement Programme. The ships duly arrived for fitting out by the Fleet Resurrection Command of the Union Defence Force, then in exile at Capitolia, in 1698 AN. This had however coincided with the capitulation of Elluenuueq into the Benacian Union in that same year. A further period of ambiguity would ensure until the ships, still based in ports on the northern coast of Florencia, passed into the possession of the Benacian Union Defence Force. It was envisioned that the ships of the class would be out of service from the Maritime Forces of the Benacian Union by 1748 AN.
Four ships of the class had been ordered for the Navy of Ransenar in 1703 AN. However, with the passing of Ransenar in to the Benacian Union in 1711 AN, and the division of Natopia, the orders were transferred the Western Natopian Demesnial Forces.
