Vadoma I (1671 AN–1752 AN), Empress of the Natopians, died on 20.XII.1752 AN at Vista de Nada Palace in Lindström, aged 81, following a prolonged illness. Her daughter Adelaide, who had served as Regent since V.1752 AN, and Emperor-Consort Edgard III were present at her death. Adelaide acceded to the throne immediately, taking the regnal name Clara I in honor of her great-aunt Clara Sundara Waffel-Paine, a former Chancellor of Natopia and advocate for Hazel rights. The provisions of the Treaty of Dynastic Separation designated Prince Nathan as heir to the Natopian throne.
Vadoma I had reigned for 35 years, having acceded in 1717 AN following the Natopian reintegration that reunited Eastern Natopia and Western Natopia after the death of her brother Nathan III. Her reign saw the Benacian War, the Spring Crisis of 1739, the Fourth Euran War, and the constitutional reforms that established the bicameral Frenzy. A state funeral was held in late XII.1752 AN. The funeral procession traveled from Vista de Nada Palace to XXXXXXXXX, where the Empress lay in state before burial in the Imperial Mausoleum. A period of official mourning was proclaimed throughout Natopia.

Reactions
Domestic
Chancellor Marco Lungo III: Chancellor Lungo, who had taken office only eight months prior in IV.1752 AN, issued a statement from the Frenzy Hall expressing profound sorrow on behalf of the government. Lungo acknowledged that while his chancellorship had been conducted primarily alongside the Regent rather than the Empress directly, Vadoma I's influence had shaped the constitutional framework within which he served. "Her Majesty's dedication to the unity of this nation defined an era," Lungo said. "Though I did not have the privilege of serving long under her direct guidance, the institutions she strengthened will endure as her monument." The Chancellor announced that all government business would be suspended for a period of mourning and that flags on government buildings would fly at half-staff until after the state funeral.
Frenzy: Upon receiving official notification of the Empress's death, both the Lower Frenzy and the Upper Frenzy immediately suspended their proceedings. The Speaker of the Lower Frenzy and the Presiding Officer of the Upper Frenzy issued a joint statement declaring that the legislature would reconvene only after the conclusion of the state funeral. Members of all parties rose in their respective chambers for a moment of silence before departing. Opposition Leader Henry Demetrios of the UDM set aside partisan differences, describing Vadoma I as "the sovereign who reunited us and held us together through trials that would have broken lesser nations."
International
Oportia: Federal Representative Clementina Duffy Carr extended formal condolences on behalf of the Oportian people, acknowledging Empress Vadoma I's role during a "complex period" in relations between the two nations. "The Empress presided over difficult years, and yet also over the beginning of reconciliation," Duffy Carr stated. "Oportia has emerged from that chapter committed to constructive partnership with Natopia, and we honor her memory as we continue building that new relationship." The Federal Representative ordered flags lowered to half-staff at Oportian diplomatic missions in Natopian territory and announced that she would attend the state funeral in Lindström as a gesture of respect and continued rapprochement.
Funeral and burial
Funeral service
The funeral was held in the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Calf in Lindström on [...]. It followed the same order of service as the funeral of Vadoma's elder brother Nathan III. The Pentheros of the Dozan Bovic Church, the aged Sergius Hergones presided over the funeral service.
The Pentheros opened the service by explaining that Empress Vadoma was now on her journey to Dairyland, and that this funeral was to help her journey there. The congregation sang the first hymn, the Hymn of Juice and Bagels, before the Pentheros began his eulogy.
In his eulogy, the Pentheros traced Vadoma's life, beginning with the unusual circumstances of her quadruple birth, the joy of which for her father was quickly diminished by his husband's murder. The Pentheros also spoke of her strong relationship to her siblings, and, later, her own husband, children and grandchildren. She was described as a unifier of the country but also of her own family, ensuring that all members, regardless of where on the face of Micras they were scattered, she charged them to all reunite at regular intervals. The funeral, the Pentheros underscored, was her last such charge, and that she would have been at peace knowing that her big family was with her on this her last journey.
Thereafter, the congregation sang Come, Come, Ye Fools as it prepared for communion. During the communion, each person ate a spoonful of butter after a blessing, sharing symbolically in the same destiny as the late empress.
Thereafter, the communion sang once again, Onward Bovic Soldiers, where the line fed the milk of Bous, going on before related to their communion.
The Pentheros led the commendation of the Empress. He prayed for Vadoma's soul to travel from the dark “Inbetween” to the bright land of Dairyland.
The service ended with the Imperial Hymn of Natopia, How Mighty is Bous Our God, the first time it was sung with reference to the new Empress.
Burial service
The burial service was conducted by the Pentheros in the crypts of the Vista da Nada Palace. Due to the small space constraints, only the most intimate members of her family participated, the other guests following from view screens in the palace.
