The Sovereign Natopian Empire, commonly known as Eastern Natopia, (/nəˈtoʊpiə/ nə-TOH-pee-ə is a country primarily located in eastern Tapfer. It consists of nine demesnes, a capital region, and three territories. By some estimates it is the fifth or sixth largest country on Micras by area. Eastern Natopia shares a land border with Western Natopia, marked by the Egale River. With 186 million people, it is the seventh-most populous country in the world. The national capital is Lindstrom and the largest city is Hazelwood City.

Humans first settled in Tapfer about 65,000 years ago. The prevailing theory proposes that the earliest mass-migration occurred when people migrated to Tapfer from Benacia using former land bridges and short sea-crossings in the IstvanistanYardistan island chain, making landfall near present-day New Alexandria and then spreading throughout Tapfer. These early inhabitants, called Paleotapferites, soon diversified into dozens of culturally distinct nations and tribes. On Yellow Island the Paleotapferites formed the Andi, Haas, and Mehl peoples in what is now Ziegeland and have resisted attempts to erase their cultural distinctiveness. Draconians have oral histories tracing their origin to the island of Nel Modan in Benacia and migrated along with other Paleotapferites, although they did not intermingle with other groups. The Hazel people, isolated for generations by the Great Hazel Woods, reside in Hazelwood. The Neemites are believed to have migrated to Tapfer about 30,000 years ago, considering their cultural and linguistic similarity to the ancient Karnali people of southeast Keltia. The Klaasiyans on mainland Tapfer and Sororiyans on the Laval Peninsula share some cultural and linguistic traits, implying ancient trade and intermingling.

The country was established as a modern nation by Nett Opaegh, a semi-legendary Jasonian who traversed the continent after the Flying Islands fell into the ocean. Nett Opaegh rallied and organized the native people near present day Lindstrom and grew their village into a town, which was called Nett Opaegh's Awe by the inhabitants. Eventually the followers of Nett Opaegh became known as Natopians to the other people of Yellow Island. From 1440 to 1471, Opaegh and his Natopians undertook a campaign of unification, by force and acquiescence, during which all tribes on Yellow Island had been conquered or peacefully annexed. Over the next 200 years, the Natopian Nation has expanded to a maximum extent by annexations, land negotiations, and most commonly by simply outliving its neighbors. In the mid- to late-17th century, Natopian expansion sped up causing significant cultural, economic, and political turmoil between the different goals and needs of Natopians in the expanding west and stagnating east.

In 1707 the empire was divided into two regions that effectively acted as de facto independent nations to relieve the pressure on the central government. In 1709, the Division of the Natopian Empire was formalized, creating two Natopian states. Eastern Natopia was east of the Egale River and constituted the oldest territories of Natopia, those that had felt ignored during the Natopian campaigns to settle and claim all of Tapfer and move on to Cibola. The Natopian Nation once occupied only the land that Eastern Natopia now controls, and was called the Sovereign Natopian Empire during that time, so the name was formally reintroduced to differentiate Eastern Natopia from Western Natopia.

Eastern Natopia is a unitary parliamentary constitutional monarchy with considerable discretionary powers reserved for both the Emperor of the Natopians and the Chancellor. The Emperor directs foreign policy, serves as commander-in-chief of the military, and performs ceremonial and diplomatic duties in their role as head of state. Certain important matters of defense, economics, and culture are handled by the Imperial Council of Natopia to maintain united policies with Western Natopia. Legislative authority is exercised by the Frenzy which is presided over by the Chancellor with executive prerogatives over domestic policies. A Supreme Court, composed of justices nominated by the Emperor and approved by the Frenzy forms an independent judicial branch. The demesnes of Eastern Natopia have local autonomy but are bound to national laws. Its age, size, and stability have made a highly developed country with a high-income economy and high development index. Eastern Natopia is currently a member of the Micras Treaty Organization, Micras Organisation for Standardisation, Bastion Union, Organisation of Red Symbol Societies, and a founding member of the Raspur Pact. It has either inherited or reapplied for these memberships according to the policies of each organization.
