The politics of Natopia function within a framework of parliamentary democracy and a unitary system of devolved demesne union governments with varying degrees of democratic traditions. Natopia is a constitutional monarchy, in which the Emperor is head of state and exercises executive powers related to defense and foreign policy. Executive powers relating to security and internal affairs are directed by the Chancellor of Natopia, and their appointed ministers. The Chancellor is responsible to the elected Frenzy of the Bovic Empire.

Natopia has a tradition of monarchism, liberalism, and a moderate political ideology. Domestic policies have, for most of Natopia's history, been handled by the devolved governments of the demesnes. The national government would only intervene when actions of a demesne did not coincide with Natopian ideals. Far-right and far-left politics have never been a prominent force in Natopian society. Peace, order, prosperity, stability, and good government are founding principles of the Natopian government. Natopia has placed emphasis on equality and inclusiveness for all its people.

The country has a relatively recent multi-party system in which many of its legislative practices derive from the ancient traditions of the Grand Natopian Senate an appointed body of demesnial governors that quickly passed laws without much deliberation. Political party affiliations were rare among national legislators until relatively recently. In recent years the Frenzy's procedures have gradually increased mandatory deliberation times, made it easier to amend and debate bills under consideration, and to require demesnes to have elected Representatives.

In 1676 a Constitution was passed, replacing the constitutional sections of the legal code, and the Caprine Code was reorganized. This new framework is part of a national campaign to modernize the democratic institutions of the Bovic Empire.
