Held | A majority (17 votes; H+T+X) was cast for Túpac Mendoza, while a minority (7 votes; C+V+T+X) votes for Michael Hutchinson. The Traditionalist group was split with one vote for Michael Hutchinson. The factionless senators split their votes equally, while the Democratic Humanist senator abstained, citing a conflict of interest stemming from politics in the Imperial Federation. In the debate, most senators acknowledged the superior candidacy of Mendoza, due to his vision of change and reform, and also his relations to Hurmu as New Alexandrian ambassador. Similarly, supporters of Hutchinson highlighted his long history of diplomacy and negotiation and him being a member of the Order. However, the Order had not been consulted on his nomination, why the majority felt it was not bound to support him by loyalty alone. |
