The Mother of the Senate (known as Father of the Senate if a man holds the role) is the longest-serving member of the Senate of the Lakes. If two or more senators have equal length of service, the oldest of them holds the role. In the absence of the Chancellor or Commander, the Mother of the Senate presides. In the absence of the Mother, the next senior senator, and so on.
