The Hurmu Fyrð is the branch of the Hurmu government tasked with the defence of the Order of the Holy Lakes and the subject realms brought together through voluntary association under the banner of Hurmu.
History
The Hurmu Peace Corps was established in 1694 through a constitutional amendment after it was found that the Hurmu Constabulary, being Hurmu's police force, was not legally sanctioned to provide for the protection of the peace in a more preventive manner. The Hurmu Peace Corps was thus tasked with preventing breaches of peace of Hurmu and the state of Hurmu. It did so through gathering such information as necessary, under the law, to provide for the peace of the people and the state. It also organised volunteers from all over the world to aid in providing for the peace of the people and the state of Hurmu. However, the Hurmu Peace Corps was also authorised under the constitution to defend the peace of Hurmu's people and state through armed means. Further more, the Hurmu Peace Corps could, on the order of the Senate (the collective head of the Hurmu Peace Corps), be deployed abroad or to the Green if it was in the interests of the peace of the people and state of Hurmu or necessary to uphold the peace in a territory ravished by war, calamity or natural disaster.
Due to being established only in 1694 by an Act of Parlerment, there was an initial lack of officers and enlisted members in the HPC. As such, the Parlerment also provided for accepting commissions and enlistments from other countries with which Hurmu has treaty relations as equivalent for the rank at hand in the Hurmu Peace Corps, provided the individual applied for provisional Hurmu nationality. Such provisional nationality allowed for the family of the peacekeeper to settle in Hurmu (i.e. the peacekeeper acts as sponsor for his family). Hurmu nationality would be then granted upon the foreigner peacekeeper (and those he or she sponsored) upon honourable discharge or ten years' service, whichever came sooner. Exceptions occurred if the peacekeeper, or a person whom he or she sponsored, had been found guilty of an offence of which a custodial sentence was indicated in the criminal code).
Following the conclusion of the 1719–1720 Hurmu civil conflict, where the force tasked with peace maintenance was found to be wholly inadequate in the face of a democratic rebellion, was reorganised into the Hurmu Fyrð. The new force is organised in compliance with the Charter for the Order of the Holy Lakes and the Senate Regulations on the Defence of the Realms in Right of the Order, 1720.

Uniform

The Pattern 1703 Service Uniform, inherited from the Hurmu Peace Corps, consists of a one-piece coverall garment in olive green, designed as general issue protective clothing suitable for use across various departments. Constructed from a durable polycotton blend fabric, it provides resistance to wear and soiling during practical tasks. The coveralls feature a full-length front opening secured by a heavy-duty zipper, often supplemented with velcro flaps for additional closure and protection against debris. Multiple pockets are integrated, including angled chest pockets with flap closures, large thigh pockets for tool storage, and rear pockets, enhancing utility without restricting movement.
The design incorporates a stand collar for neck protection, long sleeves with adjustable cuffs typically fastened by velcro, and leg openings that accommodate boots while allowing ease of donning and removal. Elasticated or velcro-adjusted waist sections ensure a secure fit across different body sizes, promoting comfort during extended wear. The overall cut is loose-fitting to permit layering underneath and freedom of movement, with reinforced stitching at stress points for longevity in demanding environments.
Headgear comprises a woollen beret in light blue, shaped and worn pulled to one side in standard military fashion, with a leather headband and drawstring for adjustment. This beret is constructed from 100% wool with a silk or cotton lining for comfort, featuring a small crown to facilitate proper shaping. Unit specific insignia or badges are displayed either via an internal slider or external mounting. Some units may, at the discretion of the Fyrð's Master, further customise their uniforms with a cuff title specifying the unit name, a battle honour, or some other accomplishment.
Footwear consists of black leather combat boots with a high ankle design, laced front, and rugged soles suitable for varied terrain. The boots provide ankle support and durability, complementing the practical nature of the coveralls. Underneath the coveralls, a plain olive green t-shirt is worn, visible at the open collar, offering a base layer for moisture management and additional warmth when required. The ensemble prioritises functionality, protection, and standardised issue across services.
Unlike the armed forces of many other nations, the Hurmu Fyrð does not maintain ceremonial or parade uniforms. This peculiarity being a hold over from the Hurmu Peace Corps, which had eschewed the conventional trappings of military identity out of an ideological commitment to pacifism. Whilst the anti-militarism had been dispensed with in the aftermath of the 1719–1720 Hurmu civil conflict, the pragmatic attitude towards uniform functionality over style had been retained.
For infantrymen, a hooded thermal signature suppressing poncho serves as an optional over-garment for the general-issue olive green coveralls, providing multispectral camouflage capabilities against infrared and thermal detection systems. Constructed from lightweight, breathable fabrics coated with specialised low-emissivity materials or stealth inks, it significantly reduces the wearer's heat signature by reflecting or blending infrared emissions with the surrounding environment. The poncho features a generous hood with drawstring adjustment for full head coverage, snap or tie fastenings along the sides for secure fit, and a loose, oversized cut to accommodate layering over the coveralls and equipment without restricting mobility.
The most common variant employs a forest camouflage pattern, typically a disruptive woodland design with greens, browns, and blacks printed on both sides for reversible use or environmental adaptability. This pattern disrupts visual outline while the underlying thermal suppression technology minimises contrast in mid-wave and long-wave infrared spectra, making the wearer harder to detect via thermal imagers or night vision devices. Additional elements include reinforced edges, compact packability into a small pouch, and low-noise fabric to maintain stealth during movement.
Designed for rapid deployment in observation, reconnaissance, or static positions, the poncho can also function as a shelter tarp when configured with grommets or ties. It prioritises minimal weight, often under 1 kg, while offering durability against tearing and weather exposure. The thermal suppression is achieved through advanced coatings rather than heavy insulation, avoiding bulk that could impede the practical utility of the underlying coveralls.
This poncho enhances the protective ensemble by addressing modern threats from aerial and ground-based thermal surveillance, complementing the coveralls' focus on soiling resistance and mobility with extended concealment in vegetated terrains.
