Amaland Mounted Police & Native Contingent
The Amaland Mounted Police & Native Contingent, an auxiliary formation of the Hurmu Fyrd, locally raised and organised in Amaland, attached to the Territorial Reserve Force.
History
Established in 1744 AN at the initiative of the Princess Rosamund, the Amaland Mounted Police & Native Contingent, comprised of contractors, freebooters, general un- and underemployed seeking greater profit, who were gathered up from the quayside taverns, neglected interior villages, and slum tenements of the realm through gentle inducements to serve in the defence of the interests of the Order of the Holy Lakes. For a generous stipend, young gentlemen of the Honourable Company were prevailed upon to ride with these volunteers so as to ensure they arrived at the front without disappearing along the route of march.
By 1745, various volunteers from Eura were likewise enticed, in significant numbers, particularly when it was known that Neo-Vanics were the enemy. At the conclusion of fighting in 1748 AN, the contingent was withdrawn to Boondagaarð and stood down.
On 23.XII.1754, a commissioner of array was appointed to raise a contingent for the occupation of Crecy. A call for volunteers was read into the record of the communal council and subsequently published in the local government gazette. The call attracted the usual sort, principally old soldiers and sailors, transport riders, and social failures from home.
The contingent, once assembled by 12.XIV.1754, received from Kamran al-Osman, the mandate of Rosamund to enter the canton of Rousilion and there receive the formal surrender of Jean-Baptiste Desaux. Pay, rations, rifles and packs, were distributed from central stores for a force that would consist of a commandant, a quartermaster, a surgeon, two superintendents, twenty-four inspectors, and ninety officers. A Unity-class frigate and a R-2 Krähenwürger assault rotorcraft were requested to be deployed to Hafnagaarð for the purpose of conveying the contingent to Crecy and supporting the operation.
The volunteers were stood down in Crecy during the third month of 1755, recieving bonus payments in addition to their arrears and tracts of confiscated land.
During the first month of 1756 AN, commissioners of array were again sent out to the notified settlements of Amaland. Each settlement was directed to form a Composite Regiment from a muster of such indolent and untasked persons as could be found within their respective jurisdictions.
