Operation Landslide is the codename of a joint military invasion and seizure of lands by Constancia and Nouvelle Alexandrie in central Eura. The lands invaded and seized had recently entered the lawlessness and chaos of the Euran Green due to the Thraci Confederation moving Antakia to the continent of Corum. After the completion of an ambitious but successful Project Gama, the Thraci Confederation consolidated its territory around the continent of Corum. The military operation began on 2.XIV.1706 AN by the Federal Forces of Nouvelle Alexandrie and the Imperial Constancian Armed Forces, with assistance from Zeed and the Suren Confederacy.

Operation Landslide is the culmination of decades of diplomatic tensions in the Euran continent that Raspur Pact partners Constancia and Nouvelle Alexandrie maintained since the Thraci Confederation's expansion westward into Razjania in 1693 AN. This motivated Constancia and Nouvelle Alexandrie years later to Operation Paramount, with Nouvelle Alexandrie and Constancia dividing among themselves the northern Euran Green. At the time of the Thraci Confederation's unilateral annexation of Razjania, Constancia and Nouvelle Alexandrie were performing military operations to secure the territory and defeat regional guerrilla groups.

The Antakian Civil War, especially the nuclear exchange on 12.XII.1706 AN between the government of the Thraci Confederation and the Black Panther rebel forces, became a grave concern for Nouvelle Alexandrie and Constancia. The nuclear exchange that destroyed the Antakian capital, Antakşehir, and the rebel capital Kwa-Pati on 12.XII.1706 AN resulted in the secret activation of military and security contingencies in both Constancia and Nouvelle Alexandrie, a country already on alert due to the recent rise of Vanic extremism. It was during this time that Nouvelle Alexandrie first activated and started using the newly deployed ballistic missile sensors and defenses from Project Space Armor.

Of special concern to the government of Nouvelle Alexandrie was the welfare and security of Çeridgul, an autonomous area of Antakia that is the ancestral home of the Çerid in Micras. The Çerid are a constitutionally protected minority and have an autonomous state in Nouvelle Alexandrie's region of Alduria. The nuclear exchange in Antakia, which resulted in the deaths of millions of Antakians, was feared could be further repeated

Aiming to prevent a continental power vacuum and more reckless nuclear attacks in central Eura, diplomatic representatives and legislators met at Fontainebleau from Constancia and Nouvelle Alexandrie over a week during XII.1706 AN. Using the Euran Economic Union secret diplomatic channels, these representatives and legislators negotiated and reached a secret agreement on how to split the former Antakian territory among themselves called the Central Euran Protocols. The agreement provided further details about how the territories would be administered, how both nations would lend support to the other to secure the territories, and the establishment of projects to connect transportation networks.

Timeline

1706

VII

  • 10: 50-megaton nuclear bomb dropped on Antakşehir and affecting the cities of Maraş and Karpuz. Imperial Constancian Armed Forces activate Operation-Plans MAD HATTER, MAD COW, MAD DOG, BRIGHT GLOW, SILENT LIGHTNING, GREY STORM, GREEN VOMIT, and BLUE SMOKE. All reserve units activated and deployed under the KATADESMOS plan. Traffic is heavily regulated in the Gulf of Aqaba. Senior government officials quietly evacuated from Petropolis, Aqaba, and Nivardom.
  • 11: State of Emergency and State of Martial Law declared throughout the Imperial State of Constancia. Gulf of Aqaba is sealed from all incoming and outgoing traffic except for Raspur Pact forces and merchant vessels. Antakian border crossings to the Imperial State are closed. Borders Control Agency of Constancia reports overwhelming amounts of Antakian refugees at the northern border of the Prosgeiosi Basileus and the western border of the Principality of Molivadia. 41st (Northern) Division of the 504th (Prosgeiosi Basileus) Army, and elements of the 506th (Molivadia) Army are deployed to reinforce border security. Some Antakians are regrettably shot as they forcibly attempt to cross the border. Imperial Government convenes in undisclosed location. Basileus Giakoumis issues live televised speech from Augustinium, urging all Constancian subjects to remain indoors until otherwise instructed, to protect against fallout, followed by an address by the Mesazon, Prince Iñigo. Scientists estimate worst of the fallout to impact Nouvelle Alexandrie more due to wind and other atmospheric conditions. Raspur Pact Health Emergency Subcommission activated and Euran Health Cooperation Facility is opened. Raspur Solidarity Fund drawdown authorized to prioritize Raspur Pact nationals health needs expenses.
  • 12: Refugee camps hastily constructed and opened north and east of Shahrzadpolis, and placed under heavy Home Guard security. Another refugee camp is initiated northeast of Arak. A fourth is established north of Arete Competitive City. Asylum and Refugees Commission is swamped with petitions. Political and diplomatic non-recognition of the Republic of Antakia complicates matters. Funds and assets of Antakian nationals within the Imperial State are frozen.
  • 13: Basileusa Esmeralda appears live on television and radio, reading an issued Autokratorial Decree permitting Antakian nationals aged 18 and below to cross the Constancian border as refugees, and to temporarily settle in the refugee camps. More refugee camps are constructed at the Molivadian side of the Antakian border. Raspur Pact Parliamentary Assembly convenes in emergency session in Lausanne to discuss the situation. Princess Rosamund confirmed by Constancian media and government sources to be either in Hurmu or Natopia.

XIII

XIV.1706

  • 2: Federal Forces of Nouvelle Alexandrie begin the invasion of the territories vacated by the departure of Antakia in Eura; Operation Landslide begins.
    • Armour and area defence formations of the I (Alduria) Combined Arms Corps begin to move out of Punta Santiago towards staging areas along the Pan-Euran Highway to Narbonne. Railway network unattested and therefore unavailable for the movement of heavy armour. Heavy vehicle transporters not on the established strength of the Federal Forces and therefore unavailable for the movement of heavy armour. Main battle tanks and armoured fighting vehicles of the I (Alduria) CAC therefore obliged to advance purely under their own motive power, with all available trucks and support vehicles tasked with delivering the fuel, lubricants, and spare components, especially spare treads for the tracks of armoured vehicles, that the combat formations will require whilst on the move.
    • Department of Civil Works and Transportation (Nouvelle Alexandrie), supported by law enforcement agencies and the Federal Guards Service, obliged to clear the highways of civilian commercial traffic throughout the entire Alduria region so as to facilitate the movement of Federal Forces towards the frontier with Razjania.
    • Separately, the Red Sun Society is conducting, with assistance and coordination with New Alexandrian forces, Operation Deliverance to deliver food, supplies, aid, and assistance to the Çerid and connect them with kin and communities in the Çerid Autonomous State.
  • 16: 78th Rapid Reaction Unit from Fort Laons deployed via large-scale parachute landing operations to secure a perimeter around the Antakşehir contamination zone. Concerns about the ESB Susa Pattern 1667 air filtration respirators and radiological contamination capes, dating back to the Second Euran War, issued to the paratroopers inhibited any further advance towards the heart of the ruined city. Mission focused on preventing looters from entering the dead zone, and on turning back any contaminated survivors missed during the Thraci evacuations who might now be attempting to escape into the countryside beyond.
    • 4th Territorial Defence Unit, advancing out of Asuara State, and the 5th TDU garrisoned in Biscarrosse State, received orders from Susa Banner Command to shift the axes of their advance to converge upon the landing zones of the 78th RRU.
  • 17: The main column of the I (Alduria) Combined Arms Corps arrived in Narbonne, Asuara State, with the 801st Reconnaissance Regiment and 803th Flankguard Regiment continuing up to the frontier, before halting to await refueling.
  • 18: Elements of the Constancian Expeditionary Force departed Arak bound for Kwa-Pati. Spearheaded by the 1er Brigade de Légion Étrangère, the Constancian column, with lighter support vehicles up to the front, was ordered to press on until organised resistance was encountered.
    • Constancian Home Guard formations within the Aqaba Banner Command area of operations were ordered to mobilise and to begin, at the earliest opportunity, a reconnaissance-in-strength into the area of operations assigned to Constancian forces under the Central Euran Protocols.
    • For the duration of the operation, the 506th Army, the Home Guard formation for Molivadia Province, was assigned to Aqaba Banner Command. This decision provoked fevered protests from the Nivardom Banner Command, which had lobbied long and hard for the right to take the lead in the Constancian component of the invasion.
    • To head off any further dissension, Esmeralda al-Osman, the Autokráteira of Constancia following her husband's retirement onto the gilded cage of the imperial throne, assumed formal control of the Trans-Euran Continental Theatre Command. Her first act subsequently being to appoint her son Iñigo to the post of officer commanding for the Aqaba Banner Command, with the rank of Arteshbod so that his authority might be unassailable.

XV.1706

  • 2: A number of so-called "bashi-bazouk" militiamen were publicly executed by firing squad at Hakas, after the verdict of a Constancian court martial ruled them to be unlawful combatants. The native Razjanian populace was reported to have observed the deaths of the captured Thraci militants with some indifference.
  • 4: Elements of the Surenid and Zeedic Euran Expeditionary Force began to disembark at Arak under the supervision of Constancian officers.
  • 5: Resistance encountered along the New Alexandrian axes of advance as it became apparent to the Razjanians that their fate was to be incorporated into existing colonial states of the Alduria region.

  • 17: A landing party from the Aqaba Fleet was put ashore at Gejlak Beach to establish contact with the Çerid population. Comprised of a mere forty Constancian naval-infantrymen under the command of a Ypoploiarchos (Lieutenant) accompanied by an Alexandrian political officer and an interpreter provided by the Çerid Autonomous State, the initial force ashore was under orders to establish contact with whatever Çerid authority remained on the island, arrange for the expulsion of any remaining Thraci garrison or settlers and make arrangements for the transfer of the island to the sovereignty of Nouvelle Alexandrie.
  • 18: Reported use of canister shot and chlorine gas to disperse Razjanian warbands opposing the westwards advance of Constancian forces out of Molivadia.
    • Quoted Home Guard officer: "Roads are impossible to follow correctly. Signs have been stolen by scrap metal merchants, and the maps we have been issued detail settlements which have not yet been established. We have been told to advance but the objectives have not yet been revealed to us. There is a demarcation line, perhaps we are heading towards that? Some Babkhi fired upon our marching column, whilst others snuck into our camp at night and stole weapons, food, and electronic devices. We've burnt two of the nearest villages this afternoon and have taken hostages to secure the return of the regimental radio. We've sent a courier back down the road to brigade HQ to ask for orders, a Thraci map and compass, and fresh supplies."
  • 30: Elements of the 1st Vanguard Division moved up to replace Molivadian Home Guard formations of the 506th Army which had lost their unit cohesion owing to guerrilla attacks and the poor supply situation.
