Zahra al-Osman

Zahra al-Osman (28.VII.1688 AN, Ardashirshahr) is Shahbanu of Çakaristan, Emira of Arbor and Countess Shishin through her marriage to Jaaguzan, the Shahanshah of Çakaristan.

She met her husband on his state visit to Hurmu in 1708 AN, where she was present as the Prime Minister's family.

Early life

Zahra al-Osman was born in Ardashirshahr, then the Elwynnese State, on 28.VII.1688 AN. She is the second daughter of Daniyal Aurangzeb Kalirion-Osman and Miranda Isabella Anders. She has two brothers, two sisters, one half-brother and one half-sister. Her father is a Babkhi scion of the House of Osman and the Line of Ayreon-Kalirion, and a descendant of Simran ibn al-Majeed. Her great-grandmother through her paternal line and her great-grandmother through her maternal line are sisters.

At the age of 6, the family moved to Arboria, where her father was stationed as Commandant-General of the Arboreal Guard. After high school, she studied economics in Tirlar. In 1706 AN she started working at ESB Group (Apollonia) while still studying. In mid 1708 she graduated with a master's degree.

Marriage

Main article: Marriage between Jaaguzan and Zahra

During the state visit to Hurmu, Zahra met Jaaguzan. They entered in Khastegāri (courtship). On 12.XII.1709, Zahra married Jaaguzan. He is her second cousin, once removed. The couple was blessed with the birth of their first child in 1711 AN:

Regency

Her husband, Jaaguzan, had appointed her Ataliq (regent) in 1726 AN. Immediately after her husband's death, she assumed the day-to-day rule of the empire. Her son, Aurangzeb, ascended the throne but was still young and inexperienced. As time went on, she appeared to actively keep her out of power and use him only for necessary administrative and ceremonial acts. This led to uncomfortable situations. For instance, for several years, the State of the Empire, an annual event in the Cakari Congress, was not delivered by the Shahanshah himself, but by Zahra. In 1738 AN, she was dismissed as Ataliq.

Titles

She is a Lady of the Holy Lakes in her own right, and, through her husband, she is Shahbanu of Çakaristan, Emira of Arbor, Emira of Al-Khandra and Countess Shishin. After her husband's death, it is not clear which titles she retains. She reportedly allows herself to becalled ‘Shah Begum’ (Lady King). But a more appropriate title would be ‘Shahmadar’ (King mother).
