It was built during the 1673 Eastern Expansion of Jingdao as a temporary seat of government for the Silafubian district. The castle was decommissioned in 1680 AN after the local government moved to a permanent location. The castle was sold to a wealthy Jingdaoese merchant in 1681, who upgraded the interior to make it more luxurious. In 1687 AN the neighbouring Kingdom of Krasnocoria collapsed and trade opportunities vanished with it. The Silafubian district regained possession over the castle as the merchant who owned the castle had declared bankruptcy.

In 1690 AN, the castle was used to accommodate the deposed king of Krasnocoria with his family. They had been sent into exile by the Sultan of Çakaristan. They fled when Çakaristan appeared to obtain Kyazilkai. As a result, the road from the castle to the Hurmu border is called the Jovan trail.
