Foreign affairs of Nova Caradia
The foreign affairs of Nova Caradia are the responsibility of the President of Nova Caradia, as head of state of the republic, and the Ministry of the Exterior. By law, the President has supreme power over any and all foreign affairs of the nation, though in principle the Casa Legii has power as well because the Minister of the Exterior is appointed by the Prime Minister, and the President and Minister of the Exterior often seek council with the Senat, which also possesses the authority to draft treaties.
Overview
Although it is technically the successor state to the Duchy of Caradia, the republic refused to assume the responsibilities of the Duchy due to the republic’s vastly differing views regarding the object of foreign relations.
Nova Caradia’s primary goal through its foreign relations is the promotion of concepts antithetical to the centrifugal properties of the Duchy of Caradia at the time of its collapse. These include the promotion of democracy and the promotion of the freedom of navigation. The republic is positioned as an opponent of bloc politics, and opposes overpowering international political alliances.
Since the passage of the Equality of Life Act, Nova Caradia seeks to promote equality and nondiscrimination for certain marginalised groups, especially certain non-human species which are under threat from certain organisations.
Ministry of the Exterior
The foreign relations of the republic are mostly dealt with by the Ministry of the Exterior, currently headed by Minister of the Exterior Constantin Antonescu under Prime Minister Milana Împotriva. Ambassadors appointed by the President and serving under the Minister of the Exterior operate most common foreign relations, with either the President or Minister of the Exterior representing the nation to the international community at large (usually the President).
