The 1685 Elwynnese princely elections were held on I.IX.1685 (first round) and I.X.1685 (second round). Originally scheduled for 1689, the princely elections had to be held much earlier due to the vacancy of the post of Prince following the heart attack of the incumbent princess Helena Strand. In the first round, Kamilla Winther received 41% of the votes, while the runner up Maaqa Kalirion-Alnavion received 24% of the votes. As such, a second round between these candidates was held on I.X.1685, where Winther secured a majority of votes. As soon as the votes were certified, on 15.X.1685 (certification took longer due to allegations of voting fraud), Winther was sworn in as the second Princess of the Elwynnese Republic. Her term is scheduled to end on 15.X.1691.

Candidates

The elections take place during the Amokolian Revolution. As such, several Amokolian candidates announced their intention to run. Sigrid Årud, the Steward of the Republic, announced that she would not stand for the office, citing her commitments to the Nordisketing (where she is the speaker).

    • 12.VIII.1685: "Indigenization” - Bailiwick names to be adjusted to that used by the majority language community in each Bailiwick of the Congressional Counties, a move strongly favouring the Elw who have long resented the marginalisation of the national tongue in official communications. Furthermore, a commission to carry out Indigenization at the Republican level, with similar consideration for the national communities of the Autonomous Republics, would also be the subject of primary legislation after the election.
    • 16.IX.1685:
      • Proposals published concerning the development of the segment of the Unified Power System of Benacia, leveraging the abundant reserves of natural gas and hydroelectric power generation capacity available to Adurellion so as to make the Enueqaveq a net energy exporter across the entire eastern and northern portion of the continent.
      • Proposals for the reorganisation of West Amokolia after its liberation. Unified autonomous republic under Elwynnese rule consisting of the ceremonial counties, Automatica, Oleslääd, and Vattnaland. Bailiwicks in liberated areas to be organised by Commission for the Integration of Amokolia. Special provision to be made for Autonomous Despotate of Mishalacia. Hyfrost, Leng and Raikoth to form Boreal Autonomous Republic (BAR).
  • Independent:
    • 19.IX.1685: Beebullahabadi, the defeated independent candidate who had stood on a socially-conservative and ethno-nationalist platform became the victim of a disfiguring acid attack upon departing a community event held at an Umraist muṣallá in the bailiwick of Perez. The assailant, an Elfinshi student activist, was heard to be screaming Human Ecologist slogans as the cudgellers assigned to Beebullahabadi's close protection detail sought to subdue her whilst at the same time attempting to ward off the furious attempts of the Umraist congregation to seize upon and beat to death the Elfinshi kuffar. The Mansabdars of Perez were obliged to call-out their retainers in order to suppress the disorder, ensuring that Beebullahabadi received urgent medical attention whilst the assailant was taken - alive, albeit severely wounded herself - into custody. The assailant was subsequently transferred to Ardashirshahr for personal interrogation by the Nahust Vazir, Daniyal Aurangzeb Kalirion-Osman.
