Foreign relations of Alduria
This article or section is a work in progress. The information below may be incomplete, outdated, or subject to change. |
Diplomacy is mainly conducted by Alduria's Department of State, headed by the Secretary of State of Alduria. The President of Alduria plays an important role in foreign affairs as the head of state. The Prime Minister, the Cabinet, and numerous other agencies and officials also play important roles in setting and shaping the foreign policy of Alduria.
The Republic of Alduria has diplomatic relations with 26 out of the 50 member states of the Micronational Cartography Society. Alduria maintains full diplomatic relations with most of its Euran neighbors, mainly Constancia, Antakia, and Graustark. Alduria maintains free movement arrangements with Constancia, Natopia, Ransenar, the Wechua Nation, and many other countries. Alduria is a member of a number of Micras Treaty Organization and of the Community of Nations.
From the establishment of Alduria as a state for the Alexandrian, Caputian, Wechua disaporas, and other stateless persons, its relations with Constancia, Natopia, Krasnocoria, Jingdao, and Craitland have been the linchpin relationships of Aldurian foreign policy. Due to the many valued relationships with partners belonging to rival blocs, Alduria maintains a strict policy of armed neutrality, while pursuing its own foreign policy goals and national interests. Upon the reestablishment of the Wechua Nation, Alduria established full diplomatic relations and began facilitating travel between them, as Alduria has the largest amount of Wechua refugees after Constancia in all of Micras.
During the mid 1670's (AN), tensions in the Kalirion Fracture between Ransenar, Alduria's closest Benacian partner, and the different worldwide Verionist interests led to Alduria siding with Ransenar. This prompted cooperation from Alduria with Jingdao and the USSO in Operation Hugo Grotius, an effort to counter and lift a blockade on a USSO partner led by Los Liberados and its Verionist interests. The Treaty of Lune Villa, signed between Ransenar and Verionist Benacia prior to the latter's ignominious demise, defused the situation and led to Alduria, at least until Verionist interests in Batavia killed the Alduria-Batavia Treaty, negotiated and written by Aldurian diplomats after the repeated insistence of Batavian diplomatic officials. In the wake of this incident, Alduria has adopted a policy of cooperation with both the Raspur Pact and the USSO whenever it is perceived that Verionist designs can be disrupted or checked.

Aldurian Neutrality
Alduria maintains a policy of armed neutrality in international relations since its foundation. The purpose of Aldurian foreign policy declares that the preservation of Alduria's independence and the advancement of its interests are its most important objectives. With growing international tensions, Alduria's government has pursued the construction of a sizeable military while barring itself from foreign deployments.
Alduria avoids alliances that might entail military commitments or commitments that would compromise its national sovereignty. Only in recent years, tensions with worldwide Verionist interests have encouraged a broadening of the scope of activities in which Alduria is able to participate without compromising its neutrality.
Department of State
The Aldurian Department of State is a national executive department responsible for carrying out Aldurian foreign policy and international relations. As one of the first Cabinet departments established after the founding of Alduria, its duties include advising the President, the Prime Minister, and administering the nation's diplomatic missions. It also assists in the negotiation of treaties and agreements with foreign entities, and representing Alduria at the Micras Treaty Organization.
It is led by the Secretary of State, a member of the Cabinet who is nominated by the President on the advice of the Prime Minister. The Secretary of State serves as the nation's chief diplomat and representative abroad and is the first Cabinet official in the order of precedence.
