Vahid al-Osman, Neo-Babkhan Humanist political officer, notable as the commander of the Fyrð in ostensibly neutral realms of Hurmu. Son of the late Daniyal Aurangzeb Kalirion-Osman, Szodan of Elluenuueq. Grandson of the present Khan of Vijayanagara, and second in line of succession to that title.

Character

Vahid was someone born into power and privilege who leveraged his family connections to attain significant military and political authority. While ambitious and accomplished, there are suggestions of past brashness. His ability to sustain influence across regimes points to political savvy and pragmatism.

His background and upbringing were marked by privilege born out of his family name and association with the Khan of Vijayanagara.

In terms of his education, he struggled academically at first, being transferred from the harsh School of Erudition to the School of the High Inquisitor of Tiegang at age 12. However, he later attended the prestigious Benacian Academy, suggesting he was still provided quality education befitting his status.

Professionally, Vahid had an accomplished military and political career. He rose through the ranks to become Fyrð's Master and Minister for the Fyrð, consolidating significant administrative and operational control. This hints at ambition and an ability to accrue power. However, this success prompted concerns about such concentration of authority in one individual.

In his political roles, Vahid served under multiple regimes and held the position of Minister for Raspur. This suggests he was a pragmatic political operator able to navigate different administrations.

Regarding his personality, a few points stand out. The note about alleged misconduct involving "a degrading act" against a company secretary while under the influence hints at a potential for reckless and unbecoming behavior in his younger years. His correspondence with his former teacher Li Suyi indicated that he maintained lasting mentorship ties, albeit ones that would be considered politically suspect later on.

Biography

Education

At the age of nine, Vahid al-Osman was enrolled with the School of Erudition. The school, situated in the eponymous port on the island of Amity, was a residential institution with a reputation for harshness and a focus upon the classics and sports. Vahid al-Osman, unlike his brother Ismail, did not thrive at the school and subsequently was transferred to the School of the High Inquisitor of Tiegang upon turning twelve years of age. In consequence of this, Vahid al-Osman was a pupil of Li Suyi and the two would remain in correspondence thereafter.

After returning from the International Mandate in 1710 AN, he would attend the Benacian Academy where he read in the Chambers of Computation for his bachelor's degree. In spite of a placement year with GleamCo not proving a particular success[1] Vahid received an appointment to the position of reader at the Academy in 1716 AN.

Service career

He would be promoted by several ranks in 1726 AN so as to take up the position of Fyrð's Master, commensurate with his appointment as Minister for the Fyrð within the Secretariat. The combination of ultimate administrative and operational control within the authority of a single individual has not always been regarded as a particularly good idea. Set against that, ultimately the authority for the political direction of Hurmu's strategic defence, in peace and war, would remain vested with the Secretary of State for Peace. Problematically, however again, this would be in turn held by another member of the House of Osman – in this instance his sister.

Politics

Appointed Minister for Raspur in 1724 AN when his elder brother, Ismail al-Osman, was Mesazon of the Imperial State of Constancia. Retained at the post when Periklês Metaxas assumed office as Mesazon in 1727 AN.

Appointed Minister for the Fyrð of Hurmu in 1726 AN, serving under the Secretariat of Ghawetkiin Enkhjargal and the Secretariat of Anastasia.

Family

Vahid has four immediate siblings. These being his elder sisters Roya and Zahra, his elder brother Ismail and his youngest sister Elham.

Additionally he has three half-siblings, including his two half-brothers Daniyal and Shahrbaraz, and his half-sister, Farah.
