The Senate of Sanama is the upper house of the Sanaman parliament, the Federal Assembly. The Senate consists of nine representatives per province, appointed by the legislatures thereof. The two populated territories, the Federal Capital Territory and Highpass, are represented by two senators each, appointed by the executive of each territory. The senators serve various terms, depending on the term of their local legislatures. This means that senators from Cisamarra serve five-year terms, while senators from Western Sanilla serve two-year terms.

Election method

The members of the Senate are elected by the provincial legislatures in accordance to local provisions. The two senators from Highpass and the Federal Capital Territory respectively are appointed by the executive of the respective territories.

Free election

The free election method is where the legislature votes freely to elect the nine members. No particular rules are applied, instead the nine candidates that get the most votes are elected.

Party election

The party election method is where the legislature votes to elect the nine members in proportion to each party's number of seats. The largest remainder method is used to distribute seats. A list of nine candidates is prepared by the Speaker and then voted upon by the legislature.

Selection

The selection method is where a committee of the legislature appoints the nine senators, either along party lines or to the majority.
