The Capital derby (also known as the Mercury derby) is the football match between the two main clubs in the city of Mercury, Cook Island and Mercury City.
History
The two sides first met after Mercury City's relegation to the Second League, with Cook Island losing out 2–1 to their rivals. Mercury City won by the same scoreline in the reverse fixture. Cook Island were knocked out in the second round of the Mercury FA Cup, suffering a 2–0 defeat in a rearranged fixture.
Mercury City successfully maintained their 100% derby record until the 2013 season, when the two sides drew 1–1 in both league fixtures. In the 2014 season, Mercury claimed their fifth derby win in seven matches with a 1–0 victory over their neighbours in December 2013. Cook Island registered their first derby win in the return fixture, however, thanks to a 2–1 home win.
