The 1685 Elwynnese princely elections were held on I.IX.1685 (first round) and I.X.1685 (second round). Originally scheduled for 1689, the princely elections had to be held much earlier due to the vacancy of the post of Prince following the heart attack of the incumbent princess Helena Strand. In the first round, Kamilla Winther received 41% of the votes, while the runner up Maaqa Kalirion-Alnavion received 24% of the votes. As such, a second round between these candidates will beheld on I.X.1685.
Candidates
The elections take place during the Amokolian Revolution. As such, several Amokolian candidates announced their intention to run. Sigrid Årud, the Steward of the Republic, announced that she would not stand for the office, citing her commitments to the Nordisketing (where she is the speaker).
- Benjamin Sluyjs, Amokolian People's Party, Premier of the Amokolian Republic
- Robiert Monqler, leader of the Amokolian Freedom Front in the Sænate
- Tegel Sain, leader of the Conservative Party of Amokolia.
- Antonin Vladimiroff, Adeile of Amokolia, member of the Council of Eliria, Mishalanski Party for Democratic Socialism (endorsed by the other parties of the Democratic Socialist Workers' Coalition)
- Kamilla Winther, Magistra of the People's Academy, First Consort of Emeritus Prince Frederik Truls. A centrist candidate with experience of Eliria's political and media landscape. Responsible for restoring discipline in Academia during her husband's administration, and for performing the same duty in the N&H after the schism of Livist and Khanist cadres. Campaigning on a platform advocating a balanced budget, land reforms, tax cuts for working families, and the upholding of the human supremacy over this world.
- Amin Salman al-Beebullahabadi, an Umraist Baatharzi-speaking cleric from Allswell, seeks to stir up Babkhi ethnocentrism. Believes that the N&H have turned the Babkhi people away from God, only God will save Elwynn. Extremely conservative. Has a good working-class message. Misogynistic, anti-gay, anti-alcohol, anti-drugs, basically anti-fun. Pro-cudgelling though.
- Deirdre Valour, from Avakair. Member of the Shirerithian Folksraad for the National Movement for Human Ecology (NMHE) (pre-1671). Local environmentalist and academic. Accuses the established parties of not taking care of the environment, member of the Ecological Movement, Goldshire, Goldshire's NMHE branch. Is happy about the Froyalanish genocide as it was good for the environment. Wants to sterilize all humans in Elwynn, and only offer counter-sterilization treatments to people who pass a certain test ("Licence to Reproduce"). Popular among the youth and environment-conscious, as well as in SCAR.
- Nila Valgarai, Democratic Party of Elwynn. Conducător of the Congressional Government. Withdrew on 1.VII.1685 due to a tax avoidance scheme and subsequent arrest.
- Maaqa Kalirion-Alnavion, Member of the Youth Arm of the National Movement for Human Ecology. Environmental activist and organizer. Opposes Deirdre Valour for her rejection of the positive philosophy of Sir Łudo Thalva for abject Ecological Nihilism. Wants to reorganize all Elwynnese citizens into communes of harmonious labor and natural beauty.
