2012 Second League

The Mercury Second League is the second tier football league in Mercury, run by the MeFA. The league is contested by eight teams, each scheduled to play 14 games. The top four teams in the 2012 Second League will be promoted to the 2013 Premier League.

History

The Mercury League was founded in 2010 with six teams. The season continued for three rounds of fixtures, before the fixture list was lost. The competition was replaced by a knockout cup for the remainder of the season.

In the second season, the clubs competing in the original Mercury League moved into the Four Nations league system, and were replaced by six new teams in the Mercury League. The competition was won by Mercury Armed Forces FC. In 2012, the league format underwent further changes. The teams that had broken off to join the Four Nations rejoined the Mercury League, forming the Premier League, with the remaining teams forming the Second League.

2013 Changes

The Mercury FA has announced changes to the Mercury League system for 2013, to accommodate the incoming Nova English clubs. The Premier League will be expanded to 12 teams, by promoting the top four teams from the 2012 Second League. The Second League will expand to 10 teams, taking in the two highest placed teams in the 2012 Nova England Cup and the top four teams from the 2012 Amateur League
