Established in 1684AN, and expanding upon the earlier Arboreal Volunteers, the Arboreal Guard is the demesnal defence force of the Principality of Arboria, comprising the militia, air guard, and coast guard.
Under Chapter V, Section 11 of the Caprine Code Demesnes are encouraged to operate Demesne Defense Forces only in their respective jurisdictions: a militia, an air guard, and a coast guard within the Demesne's Reserve Zone (as defined by the MTOCLOS). The Consensus of Government for Aboria, enacted in 1676AN empowered the Princess of Arboria in Council to decree the formation of the Arboreal Guard via a statutory instrument, this being done on the 17th day of Regnuary in the year 1684AN at the Court at the Imperial Embassy of the Bovic Empire of the Natopian Nation at Astérapolis.
An ad valorem import tax of five percentum was levied on all goods imported into the Principality of Arboria from non-Raspur Pact nations to fund the Arboreal Guard.
The decree provided for the appointment of a Commandant-General who was authorized to promulgate General Orders pertaining to organisation, command and control, and operation of the Arboreal Guard and its respective service branches.
