The politics of Vegno take place under a semi-presidential republic. The head of state is the President of the Republic with the head of executive government being the Prime Minister. The nation's legislative is its parliament, which is a unicameral house of 150 seats elected via the mixed-member proportional representation system.

Following the constitutional reform approved in 1708 by the Mancuso I Cabinet under President Luca Zarrella, each legislature will last from now on, from three to five years.

Constitution

Main article: Constitution of Vegno

The Republic of Vegno was founded in 1705 AN with the drafting of the "Costituzione del Vegno" (Constitution of Vegno), signed by the seven members of the Constituent Assembly.

The Constitution of the Republic of Vegno is the fundamental law of the State, which occupies the top of the hierarchy of sources in the legal system of the Republic: it is composed of 12 articles written and published in 12/1705 AN by the Seven Founding Fathers of the Constituent Assembly of Vegno.

Regional governments

Each region is a territorial body with its own statutes, powers and functions according to the principles established by the Constitution.

The organs of the region are:

  • the regional council;
  • the president of the regional council.

The region is represented by the president of the regional council (called President of the Region) who is directly and democratically elected through regional elections by universal suffrage among all citizens of the municipalities of the region with the right to vote (age older than 18 years). If the president of the region is disheartened or resigns voluntarily with immediate effects or dies or is permanently impeded, the regional council is dissolved and new elections are called as soon as possible. Until the new organs of the region are established, the powers of the previous organs for the performance of ordinary administration acts are extended. The region has a regional council, elected by adult citizens residing in the region, an equivalent collegial body of the Parliament at the state level, composed of regional councilors representing all the political forces of the territory with functions of approval of the regional budget, of resolutions and provisions issued by the president / council.

Each regional council and President term lasts for five years, after which take place a regional election.
