The region is represented by the president of the regional council (called President of the Region) who is directly and democratically elected through regional elections by universal suffrage among all citizens of the municipalities of the region with the right to vote (age older than 18 years). If the president of the region is disheartened or resigns voluntarily with immediate effects or dies or is permanently impeded, the regional council is dissolved and new elections are called as soon as possible.
