Jamshid-e Osman

Jamshid-e Osman (born in Raspur, 1665) is a Hurmu nobleman and politician, formerly Senator of the Lakes (1690–1695) as well as Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs in the First cabinet of Daniyal al-Osman (1690–94) and Minister for the District of East Barrow Island (1695-) in the Second cabinet of Daniyal al-Osman. He is affiliated with the senatorial Humanist list and the political party Coalition for Democratic Humanism.

The son of then Kūruš Artashata, Khanzada of Raspur (b. 1642), since 1674 known as Dāryuš Shah, Khan of Raspur, and Azardokht al-Osman, grand vizier of Raspur, Jamshid, as he was known within the family, had a childhood marked by privilege. Peroz, an elder sibling, was stillborn. He has an older twin brother, Bābakān, who is heir to the Khanate of Raspur. On the urging of both their father and the Constancian Autokrator, Jaime Augustin Joaquin Primo de Aguilar, Bābakān and Jamshid were dispatched once they had reached adulthood to Hurmu to represent their sovereigns at the formation of the new Hurmu state. Once Hurmu had been established as an independent and sovereign state, Jamshid was 25 years old. Both Bābakān and he were elected by their fellow humanists in the Order of the Holy Lakes to the Senate. Their distant cousin, Daniyal al-Osman, became the prime minister and appointed Jamshid to the cabinet too. As such, Jamshid is one of the more powerful people in Hurmu.

Neither he nor Bābakān have established families of their own. As twins, they shared a household in Huyenkula until Jamshid departed to take up his office as Minister for the East Barrow Island district in 1699 AN, thereafter taking the Villa Hurmu as his primary residence. In that same year, Jamshid married Esmé Griffin, daughter of Gerallt Islwyn and Dilys Eluned Griffin. Wolstan Darley, a captain of the contingent of maritime security specialists chartered by Jamshid to assist in the pacification of the Warring Islands, had discovered Esmé amongst the survivors of a luxury yacht bound for Porth Erynn. The yacht, whose name and flag it is perhaps not yet prudent to mention, had been bound for the new Keltian settlements on account of the owner's restless sense of adventure and Esmé had been one of the guests brought along to enliven his trip. The yacht had, by some strange misfortune, contrived to simultaneously set itself ablaze and be holed below the waterline - a calamitous state of affairs which made it undoubtedly fortuitous, indeed serendipitous, that five armed trawlers led by Darley's own had come so far south, drawn by reports of maritime activity in the region. The crew of the first armed trawler to arrive gallantly rescued such passengers and items of salvage as best they were able before turning about sharply to the north, lest there be any misunderstanding or friction with the sizeable flotilla of warships now believed to be operating in the area. It was to be regretted that all of the survivors of the attack expired from their wounds, one after the other, on the journey northwards to the Warring Isles, save for Esmé, whose bearing and presence had impressed Wolstan considerably. As the sole survivor she was brought by the Captain to the Villa Hurmu as he gave his account of the accidental loss of the yacht and the items of salvage recovered. After being interrogated by Jamshid, Esmé subsequently discovered that she retained, to her surprise, the benefit of the Governor's good will; the manifestations of which included a suite of rooms in the west wing of the Villa, a female auxiliary officer of the Hurmu Constabulary to act has her assistant and chaperone, and the liberty travel - escorted by her chaperone - throughout East Barrow Island. The subsequent wedding, well attended by representatives of the colonial administration, the maritime community, and local dignitaries, took place at Villa Hurmu on 21.VI.1699 AN.
