The Benacian Union took part in Microvision Song Contest 2022 with the song "To Life" by Chaim Topol. The song is sung in Istvanistani. This act was performed fourth in this year's contest.

The song celebrates the simple joy of living in a harmonious society bound in covenant to the highest divinity, as two men agree the arrangement of a marriage match for their son and daughter, and rouse the menfolk of the village to partake in the ensuing revelry.

The song was submitted by the Benacian Union, from among their Yehudi people in the Siyachia.

Reactions and propaganda

Participation of the Benacian Censorate

The exposure of subjects of the Benacian Union to foreign cultural artefacts is a matter within the purview of the Benacian Censorate, reporting to the Lord High Censor and the Congress of Chryse, and the introduction of any form of memetic contagion is something to be robustly warded against. Instead of a live broadcast over the Benacian Data Network, subjects of meritorious standing with the requisite Information Licences will receive a curated summary of the international event, detailing the nations that submitted a contribution and providing a five second clip of each song along with the song title and the name of the artist. Accompanying each clip is a sixty second verbal summary provided by the broadcast continuity reader, detailing the geopolitical standing of the nation in question, the ideological and moral themes of the song, and a consideration of the quality of the piece if there is sufficient time. If the piece is considered to be ideologically suspect or morally reprehensible, instead of the aforementioned summary a black screen would be shown whilst the name of the participating nation is read out by the broadcast continuity reader without further comment.

The pre-broadcast evaluation was undertaken by a team of eight censors of the ordinate grade, supervised by a Reader attached from the Benacian Academy to advise on foreign cultural contexts. The task was not without its cost, as two censors were regrettably dispatched to the Benacian Labour Reserve for certain lapses of propriety evidenced in their reports whilst a third requested reassignment to other duties.

Chaim Topol

Chaim Topol, a musician by profession and registered with the Guild of the Lotus, arrived in Chryse in 1705 AN amongst a contingent of fiddlers sent as part of tribute payments made by the Governorate of Siyachia of the High Presidium of the Benacian Union. These were attached to the Benacian Philharmonic Orchestra after being received by the Szodan of Benacia.

Tasked with preparing an entry for Microvision 2022 that countered the overly negative international depiction of the Benacian Union Chaim returned to his homeland with a small film crew provided by the Commission of the Panopticon in order to find inspiration. His efforts resulted in "To Life", performed and filmed in a taven conveniently situated in his home village.

A Content Creation Licence for the work was granted after receipt of the nihil obstat and imprimatur declarations from the Benacian Censorate.
