1597 Elwynnese princely elections

The 1597 Elwynnese election for Prince was arguably the most controversial princely election in Elwynn. It took place in the Senate. The incumbent prince, Elijah Ayreon, declined to stand for re-election for the next three-year term.

There were two candidates, Tarjei Einhornsson and Jacobus Loki. At the end of voting, the President of the Senate (Mr Osmani) declared Tarjei Mr to have received a plurality of the votes after declaring one Senator (Mr Alexander) disqualified from voting (for lacking the proper credentials) and declared the change of vote of one Senator (Mr Laing) to be illegal (Mr Laing's vote was as his original). As such, Mr Einhornsson received 5 votes (Mssrs Ayreon, Rakira, Einhornsson, Oqtavion, and Tosha), and Mr Loki received four votes (Mssrs Loki, Ilios, Windsor, and Erion), 1 abstention (Mr Laing), and one disqualification (Mr Alexander).

Mr Loki however disputed the result of this election, claiming he won the election based on Mr Alexander's vote for him (despite lacking the proper credentials at the time) and of Mr Laing's change of vote from "present" to Mr Loki.

Mr Loki took charge of Krull Opera House and began implementing his new government immediately. Mr Einhornsson withdrew from the Senate chamber and decided not to contest in the courts the legality of Mr Loki's assumption to the office of prince. The Senate resolved afterwards that Mr Alexander had the proper credentials in the election. However, no resolution was passed with regard to Mr Laing's vote. In the event of a tie in the election, it would have been the President (Mr Osmani) who would have voted to break that tie. Mr Osmani was a keen supporter of Mr Einhornsson.

The Senate never made any other decisions on the matter, causing the legality of who would be Prince to be resolved much later. The government of the Coordinated State resolved, after reviewing the documents related to the 1597 election, that Tarjei Einhornsson was the true victor of the election. As such, while Jacobus Loki was the de facto prince of Elwynn for the 1597–1600 period, the de jure Prince was Tarjei Einhornsson.
