The 2021–22 Hurmu Soccer League is the eleventh season of the Hurmu Soccer League and the first under its new format. Under a directive from the Hurmu Football Association, the league was split into three sections; a regional first round, a Winter Cup series and a national second round, to determine the champions of Hurmu.

Background and structure

As the past ten editions of the Hurmu Soccer League had featured the same eight teams, the Hurmu FA decided to expand the league and invite clubs from across the country to enter into the league. However, noting the lack of organised football elsewhere, they decided that instead of assembling a giant league system, they would instead launch a national competitional which would start off with regional championships that would be held in the autumn, which would lead into a national competition.

It was decided to establish five separate regional championships; one each for Lontinien, Rekozemlje, Transprinitica and the Warring Islands, and a combined one for the districts of Lyrican Hurmu. It was determined that due to the professionalism of the teams of Lyrican Hurmu, that region would be afforded four automatic spots in the National Championship, with Lontinien, Rekozemlje and Transprinitca receiving two automatic spots each and the Warring Islands just one automatic spot. However, the remaining thirteen spots in the National Championship would be afforded to teams who qualified through the Winter Cup series where twenty teams (four from each regional championship) will battle out for a qualification spot in the National Championship.

The National Championship will be played in the spring in a tournament format, with the twenty-four teams split into six groups of four, before the last sixteen enter a knock-out competition to be crowned national champions. All games will be played on a home-and-away basis in the National Championship, with the exception of the final, which will be played at the Hurmu Ground in Vesüha.

Ahead of the season, the Hurmu FA invited teams to participate. It required any team that wish to enter have a named home stadium within a reasonable distance of their location which complied with the FMF's regulations of size and quality, with changing rooms for the home and away teams and the referee with toilet and shower provisions, flood lights, provisions for spectators, including a minimum capacity of 3,000, including a suitable area for a segregated away suppporters section, a risk assessment certified by the local police department on how they would police/steward games, the provisions to sell tickets and medical facilities with a medical evacuation plan for any potentially serious injury. Furthermore, the FA required an administrative fee of 1,000 to be paid, as a way of proving clubs had sufficient funds to participate, cover the costs of referees and to deter non-serious sides from entering.

Regional Championships

Lyrican Hurmu Championship

The eight established Hurmu Soccer League clubs were given a bye straight into the Lyrican Hurmu Championship main stage. To join them, amateur clubs from both the Lake District and the Southern District were invited to participate, so long as they met the entry criteria. As such, a number of applications from amateur clubs were accepted and it was decided to allow four of them to qualify through a preliminary round to join the existing professional sides in a twelve team tournament.

Preliminary rounds

Thirty-one amateur clubs had their applications to participate accepted. They were drawn to participate in a knock-out round to determine the four qualifiers for the Lyrican Hurmu Championship.

Winter Cup

The twenty teams are drawn into five groups of four teams. The top two finishers in each group progress to the national championship, whilst the third place team in each group enters the Winter Cup bronze series to determine the final three qualifiers for the national championship. Unlike the regional and national championships, each group at the Winter Cup is played at a central venue, to minimise travel and fixture congestion.
