The 1715 general election was held in Kurum Ash-Sharqia to elect the 5th session of Al-Majlis Al-Watani. The election was held on the 4th day of 1715 AN. 100 seats in Al-Majlis Al-Watani were up for election.
Al-Majlis Al-Watani was dissolved by the Sultan when the cabinet lost its parliamentary majority due to 4 members of the ruling Islamic People's Party leaving their party to join the Socialist Platform.
The Islamic People's Party (IPP) remained the largest party, but lost heavily to the Socialist Platform, of which many MP's came from the more progressive wing of the IPP. The Secular Alliance and the Socialist Platform formed an anti-IPP coalition with 53 seats. Mohamed Van de Vijver was appointed to the office of Grand Vizier.
