Voice of the Wide Spaces
A gravelly Çer voice comes on the radio, with the spritely cadences of one trying hard to sound what a human would interpret as chirpy and cheery. It isn't very convincing.

Now introducing Smiling Sky's Goat Nuggets! A savory finger food that our feathered friends just can't satisfy. Try our Goat Nuggets today!
The sound of a bleating goat plays.
The station's broadcast returns to the news:
Good evening. This this is AVWS, the Voice of the Wide Spaces. I am Oshril, the discerning, son of Oshli, and this is VWS News.
Protests broke out across Çeridgul today against the terms of the territory's incorporation into Nouvelle Alexandrie, as it became understood that it would be united with Alduria's Çerid Autonomous State.
The nuclear exchange in Antakia, and the accompanying withdrawal of the Thraci Confederation from the face of Eura, resulted in its suzerainty over Çeridgul being assumed by Nouvelle Alexandrie. The change was initially celebrated in the Çer homeland, whose relations with the Thraci government had been lukewarm at best, anticipated being reunited with fellow Çerid under the framework of a Çer-friendly government. It was on that basis that the Household of the Great Speaker engaged in negotiations with with federal government.
The resulting agreement, however, anticipated merging Çeridgul into the existing Çerid Autonomous State as a discontinuous entity. Since under the negotiated arrangement Çeridgul would be governed from Aladurkidal in the CAS - which has one-sixth the population of Çeridgul, very different constitutional arrangements, and a much shorter history - prideful Çerid in the latter are dissatisfied with the agreement.
The protesters have conflicting demands, with some demanding that the CAS constitutional structure be completely reorganized, some that Çeridgul be made a separate autonomous state, and some that independence would be preferable. Counter-protests have arisen from commercial interests and Çer unionist groups who believe that a single Çer state within a wider Nouvelle Alexandrie will be the best bargain for the Çer people.
A major brawl on Gejlak Beach resulted in thirty-eight hospitalizations, all non-life-threatening; but we are saddened to report major damage to the Chalti Distillery and the Broken Wing pub due to looting by thirsty protesters.
