HUMANISTS TOPPLE SOCIAL DEMOCRATS IN ELECTIONS
- FHP wins 346 seats, 55.7% of the national vote
- SDLA sees vote share, seats, and all gains from 1703 disappear
- Clear FHP sweep of regional governments and legislature even in SDLA bastion territories
- Federal Elections Commission - Turnout lowest in 25 years, 52.3%
Cárdenas, FCD -- The Federal Humanist Party has won the general election with a sizeable 55.7% of the national vote, according to the developing count by the Federal Elections Commission.
With 97% of all electoral precincts in the country counted, the Federal Humanist Party will enter the fourth session of the Federal Assembly with a majority of 26 seats. The Social Democratic and Liberal Alliance ended with 206 seats and 32% of the vote, losing 103 seats.
The Federal Elections Commission is reporting that this election had a turnout rate of 52.3%, the lowest in the last 25 years of the Federation. The drop in voters is attributed to low motivation among many voters, especially those in the SDLA base and other SDLA-supporting constituencies.
The results also demonstrate the growing power of the Federal Consensus Party, having gone from only 3 seats in the last Federal Assembly to a whopping 63 seats. Prior to the election, the Federal Consensus Party was known as the Moderate Caucus.
The Social Democratic & Liberal Alliance lost significant support among the vast swaths of moderates and independents that brought them to power in 1703. In polling and interviews, voters registered the constant changes in leadership, lack of decisive action on the Vanic insurgency in Lyrica, and the developing economic recession at home. The rise of the Federal Consensus Party has also led to a mass departure of voters and support from the SDLA.
