Nouvelle Alexandrie X CORPS ENGINEERS BRIDGE THE RODINIA RIVER AND REPAIR A ROAD IN A NIGHTTIME DRILL AT LAKE RODINIA

  • X Corps Engineers Throw a Temporary Span Across the Rodinia River Below Lake Rodinia
  • The 5515e Pioneer Regiment Works With Bridgelayers and CEV-20 Engineer Vehicles
  • The Defense Department Obtained Federal Watershed Permits, With No Refueling Near the Shoreline
  • Mayor Kerr Says the Port Eylan Burgh Council Asked for the Road Closures
  • Secretary Escalante Says a Corps Must Be Able to Cross a River in Its Own Country

Port Eylan, Qhapaqsuyu -- Engineers of X Corps, the Force de Réaction Rapide, finished a three-night exercise in the Lake Rodinia basin on 13.I.1762 AN, bridging the Rodinia River below the lake and repairing 1.2 kilometers of washed-out road.

The corps deployed to the basin from its garrison at Île des Ombres Naval Station. About 300 soldiers of the 5515e Régiment de Pionniers Aéroportés, the airborne pioneer regiment of Task Force Vanguard, crewed four M1716 Mobile Bridge System bridgelayers and six CEV-20 Pioneer engineer vehicles. The Federal Forces keep the armored bridge system prepositioned for complex terrain and riverine environments. The CEV-20 puts a bulldozer blade, an excavator arm and bridge-laying gear on the chassis of the MBT-3 Sovereign. On the first night the bridgelayers laid a 40-meter span across the river, and over the next two the engineer vehicles cut the approaches and rebuilt the damaged stretch of road to carry the corps' heaviest loads.

Secretary of Defense Rafael Escalante y Durán said the exercise tested a basic requirement. "A corps that cannot cross a river in its own country cannot do much of anything," he said.

X Corps led Operation Northern Vanguard into the basin in 1745 AN, and the Northern Keltian Territorial Integration Act, 1745 that followed still governs the work there. Article 10 provides for bridge construction over major waterways, including approaches to Lake Rodinia, and Article 13 calls for secure transport links and directs the Federal Forces to maintain security installations.[1] Forburgh and Port Eylan, both in Qhapaqsuyu, sit on the Rodinia corridor of the Qhapaq Ñan, which also carries the reconstruction freight of the Keltian Frontier Development Corporation.

The drill belongs to Force 1760, the modernization program that runs through fiscal year 1765 AN at NAX€9.7 trillion, of which the Grand Army of the Federation receives 31 percent, or NAX€3.01 trillion. The fiscal year 1762 AN tranche is NAX€980 billion, and readiness sustainment is among the program's stated aims.[2] The program's first readiness certification came at Exercise Sovereign Anvil in Oportia in III.1758 AN, when the Joint Warfare Analysis Center assessed battle groups against the standard of the Force 1752 initiative.[3] The basin drill is not a certification serial. The Department said its findings will go to the center as preparation for later assessments.

Article 7 of the Integration Act requires federal environmental impact assessments and permits for all development and land use in the basin, a Protected Federal Watershed.[4] The Department obtained them before any vehicle moved, and it notified the Rodinia River Authority, created under the Rodinia River Authority Act, 1727. Under the conditions it described, vehicles were refueled only at a yard set back from the water, each crew and the bridge site carried spill kits, and the span and its approaches are to be removed and the ground restored within the month.

Convoys moved through the Lakeshore district between late evening and first light, when the lake freight was off the road. The closures centered on the Old Quay, which the Keltian Frontier Development Corporation's Port Eylan Reconstruction Division had rebuilt. Mayor Catalina Kerr said they were arranged at the Port Eylan Burgh Council's request. "A column of armored vehicles going past the Old Quay at two in the morning is not something people sleep through," she said. "The army kept to the hours it gave us, and I have had very few complaints."

A boat operator who runs the crossing to the shore villages without a road said his sailings were never held. "I saw them parked back from the quay every morning, and that was all I saw," he said. Amaru Quispe, the Keltian Frontier Development Corporation's Director of Operations, said its freight shifted to daytime windows for the three days. "The engineers took the nights and we kept the days, and nobody lost a delivery," he said.

▸ OOC: Story Summary & Impact Assessment

TL;DR: Engineers of X Corps, the Force de Réaction Rapide, deployed from Île des Ombres to the Lake Rodinia basin and on 13.I.1762 AN finished three nights of bridging the Rodinia River and repairing a washed-out road. The Defense Department held federal watershed permits, and Mayor Catalina Kerr said the Port Eylan Burgh Council asked for the closures around the Old Quay. The drill is preparation for later readiness assessments under Force 1760.
