Henry Valentin Barreau is a billionaire and an independent politician from Nouvelle Alexandrie, currently serving as a Deputy of the Federal Assembly for the Region of Alduria since 1703 AN. Prior to his entrance in politics, Barreau was the founder and CEO of the largest cellphone company in the Federation, Celly. His political ideology is characterized as having liberal and libertarian views, known for his support of federalism and environmentalism.
Born in Triegon, Natopia in 16.II.1664 AN, his father is a billionaire businessman and communications tycoon in Neridia, Joseph Barreau. He was educated at the Imperial University of Alexandria in Triegon, Natopia; and then later at Nathan & Elijah College in Lindström, Natopia. After the sudden death of his father on 1691 AN, he became the new CEO of his father's cellphone company, the Celly Corporation. Under his leadership, Celly drastically expanded its cellphone networks and connections throughout Nouvelle Alexandrie, keeping up with the nation's fast territorial expansions.
Barreau's success in the business world led him to pursue a career in politics. In the months leading up to the 1703 general election, he dramatically announced his resignation as CEO of Celly at a corporate conference in order to "pursue public service and fight for a better Nouvelle Alexandrie." He announced that he was running for a seat in the Federal Assembly as an independent Deputy, advocating for a balanced budget, the enactment of electronic direct democracy, and the aggressive expansion and colonization of Keltia by Nouvelle Alexandrie. His campaign was successful and he won his seat in the 1703 general election as an independent Deputy for the Region of Alduria. In his time as a Deputy, Barreau has become known for his liberal and libertarian views, supporting federalism and environmentalism. He has also been a vocal advocate for the use of technology in government, pushing for the implementation of electronic direct democracy and the use of encrypted communication to improve the transparency of government.
Despite his political success, Barreau has not been without controversy. He was accused of corruption by a whistleblower in a secret government audit of the Federation Games, which revealed that he had used his position and influence to profit from the event. However, Barreau was able to evade the advanced government anti-corruption mechanisms and processes through the use of encrypted communications and the help of a small group of officials in his immediate vicinity. They helped him cover up the tracks of the corruption and keep it hidden from the government. The vast majority of the offenses were committed well before the government had stepped in to save the Federation Games, and the corruption was built in as a feature of the entire event. Despite the accusations, Barreau has maintained his innocence and continues to serve as a Deputy in the Federal Assembly.
