WIP

The Natopian peerage is the legal and customary system that governs hereditary titles, of various imperial, royal, and noble ranks, within the Natopian Nation. The peerage of Eastern Natopia and Western Natopia are maintained co-equally after the Division of the Natopian Empire. Ranks are standardized, although titles may use local language and custom. There are several peerage divisions that co-exist within the Natopian system based on jurisdiction, namely:

  • Peerage of Eastern Natopia - titles created by the Emperor of the Eastern Natopians after 1708
    • Peerage of Ziegeland - titles created by the Kings of Ziegeland
    • Peerage of Tas Neemia - titles created by the Raja of Tas Neemia
    • Peerage of Hazelwood - titles created by the Chief of Hazelwood
    • Peerage of Sororiya - titles created by the Prince of Sororiya
  • Peerage of Western Natopia - titles created by the Emperor of the Western Natopians after 1708
    • Peerage of Arboria - titles created by the Prince or Princess of Arboria

The Emperor of the Natopians did not create or grant peerages prior to 1708 and instead used their position as ruler of Ziegeland, Tas Neemia, and Sororiya to create titles specific to those kingdoms. Only the title of "Prince/Princess of Natopia" was granted by the Emperor and it was derived from being the child of the emperor or listed in the line of succession.

Ranks and Rules

The Natopian peerage follows standard rankings of noble titles with the Emperor naturally occupying the first spot in the order of precedence. In Eastern Natopia, the Emperor traditionally only grants the title "Prince/Princess of Natopia" and the monarchs of the demesnes serve as fonts of honor for their jurisdictions. Precedence within each rank is determined by seniority of the title itself. Most titles are inherited upon the death of its holder and pass to the designated heir, or eldest child.

  1. Emperor - the eastern and western Emperor are equal in status, however in practical terms, due to title seniority preference is given to the eastern emperor.
  2. Prince/Princess of Natopia - a title automatically given to the children of the reigning emperor, or bestowed to others in the line of succession; they hold the title for life but it is not inheritable.
  3. King/Raja/Prince/Chief - the various monarchs of the Natopian demesnes may use local titles but are afforded equal status. The order of precedence is determined by seniority of the title.
  4. Duke/Nawab - The title of duke/duchess is used in Ziegeland, Hazelwood, and Sororiya while the title of nawab/begum is used in Tas Neemia.
  5. Count/Mankari - The title of count/countess is used in Ziegeland, Hazelwood, and Sororiya while the title of mankari is used in Tas Neemia.
  6. Baron - The title of baron/baroness is used in Ziegeland, Hazelwood, and Sororiya as a non-landed familial title, recognized by the monarch for important families of ancient stock.
