The Sanama general election, 1691 is the fifth general election, fifth election to the Llusan and the third presidential election. It is also the third election to feature electoral districts as well as a majority bonus for the winning alliance of parties. The three coalitions are the center-right Alliance for Prosperity, the center-left Democratic League, and the big tent Regionalist Bloc.
Presidential election
The incumbent President Keysa Nur Pinito Caprici was term limited for this election, having already served two terms. She instead emerged as the Chancellor candidate for the Alliance for Prosperity, with former Chancellor Tanilo Lhayi making a comeback as the Alliance's presidential candidate, a move generally viewed as a power play by Nur Pinito Caprici in moving the executive focal point from the presidency to the chancellorship. From the Democratic League, the serving Chancellor Taliya Wilamu ran for president with Pjetro Campucci as candidate for Chancellor.

The fifth Llusan election after democracy was restored was again primarily contested between the Democratic League and the Alliance for Prosperity. A major change going into the election cycle was that the Nationalist & Humanist Party had joined the AfP and left the Regionalist Bloc, an ill fit from the start for a party with national aspirations. After three years of a largely static leftist government, with several high-profile conflicts with the outgoing President, and several vetos of major pieces of legislation, the leftist government was hit with the Coalition 1660 scandal in the Unified Governorates. While C60 involvement was vehemently denied by Chancellor Wilamu and the chairperson of C60 in Sanama, Salina Sumi, relentless accusations from the AfP eroded the already tenuous support for the government coalition. While Sanamans in general have a complicated relationship with the Unified Governorates, many took the view that even suspicion against a C60 sister party for participation in a coup d'état was enough to disqualify the party from national government. Chancellor Wilamu's stiffnecked support for C60 dragged down the SLF in national polls. The election results were a shock for the government. Almost half of the C60 voters abandoned the party, contributing to a ten percent decline for the government coalition. Meanwhile, voter mobility and new member N&H helped propel the Alliance for Prosperity into majority government, picking up 12 percent more votes than in 1688. The addition of So-Sara also contributed to a large gain for the Yardistani List. The strong AfP showing also launched Tanilo Lhayi into the Presidency. Seen as a much weaker political player than UNA party leader Keysa Nur Pinito Caprici, the executive power focal point is expected to shift from the President to the Chancellor in the years to come.
