The process of Natopian reintegration is the process of the reconstitution of the Natopian Empire, which began with the succession of Empress Vadoma I to the throne of Eastern Natopia after the death of Nathan III in 1716 AN. Upon her accession to the throne of Eastern Natopia, Vadoma I assumed the title of Empress of the Natopians. Western Natopia and Eastern Natopia were created after the division of the Natopian Empire in 1709 AN, which was supported by democratic referenda held throughout Natopia in 1708 AN.

Background

The division of the Natopian Empire began in 1707 AN when the Natopia was divided into two co-equal viceroyalties that became the sovereign states of Western Natopia and Eastern Natopia. The process began when Emperor Nathan III proposed the division in order to better govern the east by himself. The demesnes east of the River Egale were organized into Eastern Natopia and the demesnes west of the river became Western Natopia. A national referendum in east and west approved the division in 1708 AN. The constitutional process that separated the empire into two states lasted into 1709 AN when both Western Natopia and Eastern Natopia's legislatures ratified the final agreements for the division.

The division took effect in 1709 AN, with Nathan III retaining the title of Emperor of the Natopians while serving as the Eastern Emperor. Vadoma I and Edward I went on to serve as Co-Emperors in the West. The Natopian division was negotiated quickly and without any major disagreements, as there was still a semblance of a "greater Natopia" in the Imperial Council of Natopia and the provisions of the Declaration of Lindstrom. The division, however, had some negative consequences, especially for many economies in the Raspur Pact, such as the Community of Goldfield economies. The Recession of 1709 affected the economies of Nouvelle Alexandrie, Ransenar, Constancia and other nations.

Following the economic recovery and the settlement of the division, Western Natopia and Eastern Natopia had carved their own paths and destinies, often coordinating in policy that affected both nations in the Imperial Council of Natopia. Over time, despite the sovereignty vested in the governments of Western Natopia and Eastern Natopia after the division, the Imperial Council at the federal level came to exert greater and greater influence in the coordination of common economic, social, military, and diplomatic policies and common objectives or projects. The developing de facto reunion of Natopia at the Imperial Council of Natopia was made official when Nathan III died suddenly in 1716 AN. Vadoma I succeeded him to the Eastern Natopian throne, reuniting both crowns under the same Natopian sovereign, and leading both parts of Natopia in grief. The death of Nathan III signalled a united grief across the empire, which led to calls for the personal union of the Natopians to reintegrate into one Bovic Empire of the Natopian Nation. As such, with the death of Nathan III came the death of the Natopian division.

Nathan's funeral on 10.IV.1716 was a hallmark in the reintegration process where media and politicians from both West and East mourned the loss of their emperor. Nathan was not an Eastern emperor, he was a Natopian emperor.

Timeline

On 14.VI.1716, The Frenzy of Western Natopia adopted a resolution calling for the reintegration of the two halves of the Empire. It was met by a similar resolution by the Frenzy of Eastern Natopia ten days later. Empress Vadoma responded, on 2.VII.1716, by appointing Arjuna Dhritarashtra, the little-known Minister (i.e. chief of government) of Tas Neemia, to Chancellor in both Western and Eastern Natopia. He was appointed, a little bit by surprise according to pundits, due to his diplomatic skills in negotiation. A former trade unionist leader, he had led former nemesis parties into a coalition government in his oft-forgotten demesne.

Three days later, Dhritarashtra nominated a cabinet in Western Natopia that would be mirrored exactly in Eastern Natopia by the same inviduals. Half of all members of the cabinet were taken from the West and the other half from the East. Thus each member of the cabinet had two civil services for respective realm to care for. As such, Vadoma and Dhritarashtra planned for a peaceful and orderly reintegration of the two halves.
