Humlant (Anglo-Saksen: Humlond; in Hurmu Norse: Humland) is region of Vegno, and a former Crandish and Arminian duchy, a former kingdom within the Anglo-Saksen Commonwealth, and a former administrative division of Lac Glacei. Historically, the region was known as the Humlaw (see also High Jarl of the Humlaw).
History
The Hummish tribes originated on Lyrica but were strictly nomadic, rarely ever settling in one location for very long. According to oral tradition, the Hums were once brethren of Hurmu to the north in the very infancy of Micras. As the tale goes, the Hums were the more warlike Hurmudan and pushed for the conquest of Lyrica. The majority of Hurmu were and are a strictly peaceful nation, and the warrior caste was forced into exile. From Hurmu they migrated south and became mounted mercenaries in the employ of various other tribes. The highest bidder would field Hummish cavalry in battle, it mattered little so long as the price was right. The Anglish and Baldic tribes variously hired them, and they raided for many years up and down Lyrica. When the Juttish tribes arrived, the Hums were pushed north into Apollonia along with the others.
For many years they served as mercenaries to the kings of the Anglo-Saxon Commonwealth, and then as mercenaries to the kings of Cranda. Only recently, with the formation of the modern Anglo-Saksen Commonwealth, have the Hummish tribes finally put down roots and settled in a specific area now called Humlant. This may have more to do with the fact that the tribe has become hemmed in on all sides by other, more formidable, powers than with them actually settling down. Despite agreeing to join the commonwealth they continued to raid and war with the Jarl of Jorvik for several years. Since the Succession Crisis of 1713 and subsequent merger of Angsax with Lac Glacei, the Hums and Jorvikken have settled their longstanding dispute amicably.
In 1738, Lac Glacei ceded Humlant to Vegno due to debt.
