The Hurmu national football team was the football team which most recently represented the Dominioner constituent nation of Hurmu, and previously represented the Elwynnese constituent nation, independent nation and Storish autonomous region of the same name. It was a member of the AEFA.
The team existed twice in the FMF's history; firstly between mid-2007 and 2010 as both an independent nation and an autonomous territory of Stormark, and secondly between late 2010 and 2013 again independently, and as a constituent nation of Elwynn and the Dominion.
History
The team was founded in 2007 after Hurmu was granted FMF membership after existing on Micras since before the organisation's founding. Later in the year, the team competed in their first qualifiers for the FMF World Cup, beating Wachensburg on aggregate before winning their three-team group to seal qualification. In the finals, the team unexpectedly beat World Cup holders Beaugium in their final group match to finish second and advance to the quarter-finals, where they were beaten 3–1 by co-hosts and eventual runners-up Tokidoki.
The following year, the team again qualified successfully from their group, winning all six of their matches. However, the team did not manage to advance to the knock-out stages, despite a draw against holders Craitland and a comfortable win over the United Empire, and finished third in their group with four points.
In late 2008, Hurmu was annexed by Stormark and became an autonomous territory, being permitted to retain its own FMF membership in the process. The team completed their 2009 qualifying campaign again without losing any games, before a less successful finals group, where they finished third with three points and failed to advance to the quarter-finals.
After regaining its independence from Stormark in late 2009, Hurmu left Micras in 2010 prior to the beginning of that year's qualifiers. During this time, the previous Hurmu players became eligible to represent Stormark, and many were involved in the team's successful qualification for, and quarter-final finish at, the 2010 FMF World Cup.
Hurmu returned to Micras in late 2010 as an independent nation. In their first qualifiers since returning, the team came second in their group behind Toketi, but this was not enough to seal qualification. During the latter stages of the qualifying rounds, Hurmu was annexed by Elwynn but retained its separate FMF membership.
In the 2012 qualifiers, the team missed-out on qualifying for the finals by virtue of goal difference to Mahoz HaSephardim after both teams finished on 19 points. However, the team competed in the first ever Copa Apollonia later in the year, where they topped their group before losing to Novatainia in the semi-final, but beating hosts North Antarctica in extra time in the third-place play-off.
In 2013, Hurmu's luck increased as they finished top of their qualifying group with 15 points to reach their first World Cup since 2009 and a second consecutive Copa Apollonia. During the qualifiers, Hurmu was annexed by the Dominion. In the Copa Apollonia, the team performed successfully as they topped their group with five points and beat Gerenia 2–0 in the semi-finals, before overcoming holders Novatainia 1–0 in the final to win their first ever title. The team were less successful in the World Cup, where they finished bottom of their group with two points to their name. Soon afterwards, Hurmu left Micras after the Dominion reduced its land claims.
