The Saznan Bivarhins (Palatine Guards) is one of the Black Legions of the Benacian Union Defence Force. Garrisoned in Chryse, the Saznan Bivarhins serves to defend the Congress of Chryse, the High Presidium of the Benacian Union, and the Chamber of Guilds and Corporations against all enemies, foreign and domestic.

History

Corps insignia of the Szodanin-Uihmanz: the crossed daggers speak to the formation's special forces heritage whilst the mural crown recognises the role of the corps in the capture of Port Benacia and Capitolia.

The Saznan Darneï (Secret Guard) originated from the defecting operatives of the Shirerithian special forces unit S.W.O.R.D., grouped as a part of Streïkrupp Kasha, who had remained steadfast in their loyalty - remaining at their posts in their isolated Inner Benacian cantonments whilst blockaded and besieged by Lach insurgents for the better part of two years. Whilst it might seem paradoxical for a unit comprised of defectors to be lauded for their dedication, the unedifying spectacle of the Imperial Government willingly abandoning members of the Imperial Forces to their fate rather than bestir themselves to confront a minor rebellion was in many respects the catalyst that set in motion the Kalirion Fracture by destroying the confidence of the armed forces in the political leadership of Shireroth. Extricating those left behind in Inner Benacia therefore became a point of honour for the Black Legions and a capstone upon the edifice of its legitimacy. Those veterans, with their prior elite training and the mass of experience garnered from a prolonged period in the wilderness of Inner Benacia, therefore were a natural choice to serve as the cadre around which the Sovereign's guard corps would be established.

The Secret Guard formed the military portion of the Special Operations Group within the Szodanin-Uihmaz (Sovereign's Corps), alongside the Sazn Þeïnszæhan Furgsaddâ (Guards Pathfinder Regiment), both of which were available to the Military Intelligence Directorate and Political Directorate of Benacia Command for clandestine operations.

Performing a similar remit to the Palatini Corps of the Imperial Regency, the Szodanin-Uihmanz provided a guard for the Commander-in-Chief and the General Staff of Benacia Command whilst also providing a reserve of manpower available for specialist actions at the direction of the Chiefs of Staff, often at the behest of the Military Intelligence Directorate or through the Special Operations Group of the Political Directorate.

In 1684 AN, during the Inner Benacian Conflict, the Saznan Darneï commanded by Bivarhins Salbnan Ulfric Pentermacht was flown in from Port Benacia to push back against the Deep Singer infestation in Litkov. Their departure from the Isle of Benacia unfortunately meant that the remaining garrison was ill-prepared to confront an uprising that had been prepared by a conspiracy amongst the islanders.

Elements of the Saznan Darneï deployed as part of Task Force 1693.1.2 on Unternehmen Verschlinger to retake Station Kaamiozyr and exterminate the Tarr settlers who had instigated the revolt there.

On 21.XIV.1695 AN, as the rebels reeled under the impact of the Scouring, the Saznan Darneï, conveyed into theatre by an immense airlift operation from Florencia began a dawn parachute landing and assault against Highbloom and Northbloom. The landings succeeded in disrupting the lines of communication between the rebels in Amokolia and their allies in Kalgachia, forcing the Kalgachi volunteer formations to retire into Northbloom, and opening a gap which armoured formations striking from the south could subsequently exploit.

The Physical Training Troop of the legion participates in the Benacian National League, finishing in fifth place in the 2019–20 Duodecennial Championship.

Transferred to Chryse and renamed as the Saznan Bivarhins in 1703 AN.
