The Maritime Special Operations Flotilla (MARSOF) are the Florian navy's principal special operations force and a key component of the Florian Special Warfare Group. MARSOF's main roles are to conduct small-unit special operation missions in maritime, jungle, urban, arctic, mountainous, and desert environments. MARSOF's typically are commanded to neutralise or apprehend high level targets, or collect information behind enemy lines. MARSOF was formed in the Sharp Administration to combat a rising threat of Micronational terrorism from rogue states.
All active MARSOF's are male and are active members of the Florian Navy and operators from MARSOF teams are often recruited for covert operations.
History
- Unit origins can be traced back to Operation Dark Horse bioterror incident (1685 AN) which demonstrated the need for a dedicated special operations unit.
- From its formation in 1685 AN the unit was attached to the Yak Tail Banner Group of Apollonia Command, responsible for carrying out long range reconnaissance missions in the ungoverned portions of Apollonia that would gradually come under the control of Çakaristan and Hurmu.
- Allied Mission in Eastern Apollonia, Hurmu & Lyrica (1685 AN – ): Available as a rapid response unit supporting the allied regional stabilisation mission in Lyrica and Hurmudan Apollonia.
- Sanaman Mission to the Green Strip (1689) AN: Force reconnaissance mission in the Green of eastern Apollonia.
- Operation Cobra (1690 AN): Covert surveillance missions undertaken against Umraist groups suspected to be organising in the International Mandate and Hazar. The operation was eventually curtailed after giving rise to a political scandal concerning President Morgan Sharp's abuse of executive powers.
- Operation Last Point (1691 AN): Counter-terror operation carried out in Hazar.
- Operation Perturbation (1693 AN – 1695 AN): eight operatives deployed to Automatica (Amokolia) as a force reconnaissance element supporting sabotage operations carried out against rebel food storage facilities and distribution networks during the Second Elwynnese Civil War.
- Sri Alban War (1705 AN): Counter-insurgency mission in Sri Alba and Mesoun.
- Floxit 1727 AN: Floria leaves the Raspur Pact leaving MARSOF as an independent force.
