Edgard Carrillo is a Puerto Rican micronationalist based in San Diego who has been building imaginary countries since before they knew there was a word for it. As a kid, he drew maps, invented governments, and wrote constitutions for nations that existed only in his head; usually with his brother and a couple of cousins that were bored enough to amuse their antics. In 2002, they discovered that a lot of other people did this too, and that they had forums and chat rooms. He spent many hours at a clunky old computer in a basement in Michigan with his brother doing this. The rest, as they say, is (fictional) history.

What started as a way to avoid boredom became a decades-long series of projects involving thousands of wiki articles, elaborate constitutional frameworks, and the kind of obsessive detail work that would concern a therapist. He regrets nothing... yet.

Their first creation, Madland, was renamed Alexandria in 2004 after he developed (slightly, marginally...) better taste. San Martin followed a few years later. When a friend (Lewis) suddenly "retired" (likely found the grass outside more appealing) from the hobby, they inherited Hamland, which eventually descended into civil war and rebranded as  Caputia before finally dissolving. He later inherited  Natopia and  Oportia from their retiring founders as well. They have, by this point, become the unofficial retirement home for Micras nations. He prefers to think of it as being trusted to keep things alive rather than simply being unable to say no. (Or being at the right place at the right time during someone's ragequit or crashout.) They currently serve as the primary administrator of  Nouvelle Alexandrie,  Natopia, and  Oportia, which means he spends an unreasonable amount of time thinking about elections, legislation, and things like, what would be Nouvelle Alexandrie's version of Juan Gabriel? (It's Aurelio Palacios.) He also spends a lot time writing fake news for fake countries, which has somehow won him real awards. His character Isabella Valentina, best described as Micras' answer to Wendy Williams, has become the region's most feared gossip columnist.

The hobby, however, proved surprisingly practical. All those years of drafting legislation and debating policy paid off in Model United Nations and Model Congress during high school. And it got them involved in politics locally, which then took him to Washington, DC. Previously a Republican, after having a dose of reality and "growing up" in Washington, D.C., they have matured and aged politically into a pragmatic progressive and "bleeding heart fucktard" (their words). Apparently, years of running fake democracies gave him unrealistic expectations about how real ones should work.

Edgard also serves as a Cartographer and Council Member of the Micras Cartography Society. They have received eighteen FNORD Awards over the years, including the Overall Achievement award in 2015 and 2017, which he suspects means they should probably find other hobbies but, as always... absolutely will not.

He has been reliably informed that touching grass is also an option, but has yet to investigate.
