The Freeland national football team was the football team which represented the micronation of Freeland. It was a member of the AEFA, and was run by the FAoF.
The team existed twice in the FMF's history; firstly between late 2017 and 2019, and secondly between late 2019 and mid-2020.
History
The team was founded in late 2017 after Freeland's Micrasian claim was successful. The team first competed, after playing the friendly Florian Peace Cup, in the 2018 Copa Apollonia qualification rounds the following year where they finished third in their six-team group with 18 points.
In the 2019 World Cup qualifiers, the team finished second in their five-team group with 18 points and advanced to the interconfederational play-off to face Greater Sangun, who they beat by virtue of away goals after a 1–1 aggregate draw to advance to their first finals. In the finals, the team finished third in their group on goal difference with seven points to advance to the play-off round, where they lost 3–0 to Craitland. Freeland left Micras later in the year before returning again shortly afterwards.
The team competed in the inaugural AEEU Nations Cup ahead of the 2020 Copa Apollonia qualification rounds, beating Thracistan before losing to the Florians in the final. In the qualifiers themselves, the team topped their six-team group with 21 points, ahead of Raspur on goal difference, and qualified for the finals. In the finals, the team finished bottom of their three-team group on goal difference with a sole point to their name. Freeland again left Micras shortly afterwards.
