The 1679 election was the first after the restoration of democracy after the military junta lead by [[Adalwolf Hiedler]]. It was also the first election to the newly established lower house, the [[Llusan]]. Riding on the popularity of Keysa Nur Pinito Caprici for her leadership of the opposition to the junta, and the failed assassination attempt, the new United Nationalist Alliance coasted to a second place in the election, less than one percentage point after the Sanaman Liberation Front. The Sanaman National Party and the Partito Popolare Cisamarrese both enjoyed large positive swings, while the SLF, Northern League and Nationalist & Humanist Party suffered negative swings. The new five percent threshold caused havoc in the field, with several leftist parties as well as the Green Alliance dropping out. This election also marked the end of leftist rule, which had continued unhindered from independence until the military coup. | |||

Keysa Nur Pinito Caprici managed to get elected in the first round since the United Nationalist Alliance, Sanaman National Party, Northern League and Partito Popolare Cisamarrese all nominated her for the position. As the candidate for a united center-right she stood against a fractured opposition, with the Sanaman Liberation Front, Coalition 1660 and the Green Alliance all fielding separate candidates. The Nationalist & Humanist Party declined to field a candidate, a move seen as passive support for Caprici. The Green Alliance candidate vastly outperformed his party in the Lhusan election, where they failed to reach the five percent threshold.
