The Typhon Group was established in Chryse on 24.III.1708 AN at the initiative of the High Presidium of the Benacian Union.
Remit
Typhon Group was established to participate in competitive motorsports on the international stage so as to both raise the profile and improve the reputation of the Benacian Union. The High Presidium of the Benacian Union was eager to demonstrate to the Congress of Chryse, the supreme authority to which it was beholden, that it had begun to undertake measures to the unjust depictions of the Union-State which had dogged it since its inception in the aftermath of the Second Elwynnese Civil War.
History
Reporting to the Commission for Foreign Relations, the Typhon Group was authorised to recruit personnel from the Benacian Union Defence Force with experience of mechanical engineering and vehicle maintenance, whilst the Mishalan Arsenal was instructed to provide personnel with a knowledge of aerodynamic principles from its design bureau in order to work on vehicle development.
The Commissioner for Foreign Relations, Ayesha al-Osman, conducted interviews for the leadership of the Typhon Group at her residence on the island of Botha. Having worked her way through her initial shortlist of preferred candidates, she was most impressed by the particular qualifications of one Albrecht Kransk, an officer of the Aviation Forces of the Benacian Union with experience of piloting the F-8 Shrike and F-9 Ashavan II. After summoning him back to the island for a confirmation session, she was at length pleased to endorse his secondment to the Typhon Group and sponsor his promotion to Cohort Tribune accordingly.
The Typhon Group would participate in the 2022-23 and 2023 duodecennial seasons, albeit would fail to register for the 2024 season in spite of having the greater part of 1729 AN in which to submit the requisite paperwork for the renewal process.
An internal enquiry by the Commission for Foreign Affairs would establish that a junior clerk at the correspondence desk of the External Relations Service had failed to note the general notice put out by Formula Micras concerning the renewals process. The clerk was duly added to the Register of Woe along with his line manager. However, the failure of the tribune at Typhon Group to take an interest in the fortunes of his own enterprise was also an occasion for concern on the part of his patrons. Accordingly Albrecht Kransk was referred to the Magisters-Carnifex for further investigation.
After his entry into the Register of Woe in 1730 AN, Kransk was replaced as tribune by his Formula Micras co-driver, Samira Khan.

Vehicle development
With the confirmation of his appointment on 24.III.1708 AN, Tribune Kransk was assigned at billet in the Antechamber of the Mechanical Arts at the Benacian Academy whilst he set to work assembling his team.
He would receive four designers from the Mishalan Arsenal who would be joined by an automotive engineer from the Stonetree Engineering Group. Two readers of the mechanical arts at the Academy, professing to have nothing better to do, also readily attached themselves to the project. They faced a tight deadline, to put it mildly. The time available for them to design and produce a compliant racing car would be measured properly in weeks and months, rather than years.
Finance
The costs of the operations of the Typhon Group was to be met by voluntary contributions from the Guilds of Benacia and sponsorship agreements with the Honourable Company and the Society for Benevolent Investment.
