Matthäus Koeppen is a businessman and politician.

Originally from Benacia, an Elwynnese national, where he practiced law, he was subsequently hired by a secretive, very-private equity Shirerithian firm, migrated to Eura for business purposes, where he became a naturalized Constancian subject, entering public notice in III.1663 on his election to the Court of Directors of the Constancian Commercial Exchange Corporation. There he stayed quietly for many years, and is said to have performed certain classified activities as a member of the Home Guard during the Second Euran War, remaining a relatively quiet presence until his sudden surprise elevation as an Imperial Senator in 1667 with the First Imperial Synkletos, where he was elected to its powerful Permanent Standing Committee, then mentioned in the records as having filed A Bill appropriating monies for the relief of certain insurance and other commercial corporations. In the Second Imperial Synkletos as well as the Third Imperial Synkletos, he retained his seat in the Permanent Standing Committee and was elected to chair the very influential Committee on Governance. Appointed to the 1667 Constitutional Commission as well as the Council of Molivadia, where he has concurrently served since 13.I.1671. Appointed Minister of the Interior and Local Government during the administration of Mesazon Andronikas Cavazos during the 7th Imperial Synkletos of 1676. Resigned ministerial post shortly prior to his election to the Court of Directors of the moribund Atacama Corporation on 22.XV.1690, where he was subsequently elected its Chief Executive, which he left at the close of 1693 to accept appointment, during the 9th Imperial Synkletos, to serve once more in the Imperial Constancian Government as Minister of Justice. President of Santander Railway Corporation from 7.XI.1699 - 36.XV.1700. Implicated in the Iron Harbour Papers scandal of 1699.

He served as Mesazon from 14.I.1701 to 13.I.1704, and was invested as Grand Knight Commander of the Order of the Constantines during the 1704 Extraordinary Investiture. He was incommunicado for a time during the War for Rosamund's Honor in the early morning of IX.4.1703 and a few days thereafter.

He is married to Amanda Gryffin-Koeppen, and has a daughter, Samantha Gryffin-Koeppen, and two sons, Bjørn Koeppen and Erik Koeppen.
