Interurbanos (Alexandrian for Intercities) is the brand used by Nouvelle Alexandrie Railways for its high-capacity non-High speed trains in Nouvelle Alexandrie. It currently operates in all Regions of Nouvelle Alexandrie, and is especially dense in Wechua Nation and Alduria. The NAR operates these services under an agreement directly with the Council of State, specifically the Department of Civil Works and Transportation, who contracts with NAR for the designated routes, fares, and scheduling. The Interurbanos are run under three administratively distinct - but all branded Interurbanos - services: "Convenciónal" are used on the bulk of the line; "Nocturno" are night trains; and "Delujo" are luxury trains offered on some lines.

The network is heavily favoured towards only a handful of cities, most of them the regional capitals: Cárdenas, Punta Santiago, and Parap.

Overview

With the creation of NAR in 1686 AN, there came a clear need to reorganise and centralise the large network of interregional trains services. In 1692 AN, NAR began using the Interurbanos brand, while the "Nocturno" and "Delujo" services were used for distinct services. It was done in part to revitalize lines previously served by the regionally-organised train companies for express and intercity services, which were known as "Linea Grande" and "Tren Interregional". Contrary to the later ExpresoReg services, the funding from these services remained solely with the State, even though several of the regions have since invested in rolling stock, track upgrades, and extensions.

In 1712 AN, with the corporatisation of NAR complete, it was decided to merge the interregional services into one, with both "Nocturno" and "Delujo" ceasing to be distinct identities. Interurbanos has since been used to denote all intercity services on the main lines running up to 160 km/h or even 200 km/h. The newly created regional transport companies - Wechua Ferrocarriles and Alduria Railway Company - also offer their distinct brand of Interurbanos services, however with different names: "Llaqta Chaski" for WFC; and "Tren Expreso de Ciudades" for ARC.

In 1730 AN, with the commencing of the Federal Infrastructure Plan, both the high-speed and conventional networks of Nouvelle Alexandrie expanded drastically. For the first time, Interurbanos services were introduced on Islas de la Libertad, Isles of Caputia, New Luthoria, New Caputia, and Boriquén. This has seen the network expand over 240%, with 7 new lines added. To accommodate the growing need for regionalisation, NAR and the DCWT have since then offered to sign transfer agreements with regional councils, allowing Interurbanos services to be collectively funded by both Federal and regional funds.

Rolling Stock

The very first Interurbanos services were provided by the purpose-built E-100 ICs built by Tránsito Rápido, which were capable of 100 km/h (60 mph). These trains consisted of three car sets, but were relatively medium-capacity with only 180 seats and 26 standing capacity. "Nocturno" trains used coupled sets refitted with sleeper cabins, while "Delujo" trains exclusively used First Class compartments. With the expansion of Interurbanos in the 1690s, the E-100 was replaced completely by the E-150, a higher-capacity model capable of 160 km/h (100 mph). This allowed for higher frequencies and gave much needed capacity to the service.

In 1712 AN, with the restructuring of Interurbanos services, a new model was ordered by NAR. The result was the double-decker E-200, capable of 200 km/h (120 mph), a higher speed mostly used on the Keltian Bulk Line and Alduria Bulk Line. This high-capacity model has completely replaced the E-150.
