The Guild of Academicians is the body ultimately responsible for the Education and indoctrination in the Benacian Union. At its heart is the Benacian Academy, the higher education institution headquartered in Chryse.

The Benacian Academy had a network of gymnasia throughout the Union-State serving as preparatory schools for the Guilds of Benacia and the myriad corporations. Those students identified as being most able would, where possible, be retained by the Guild of Academicians and inducted into the halls of the Benacian Academy.

Structure

The hierarchy of the Guild conforms in its particulars to the Table of Grades and Ranks of the Benacian Union. All academicians are referred to as such, distinguished by the honorific appropriate to their grade, these being in descending order, from lowest to highest, the:

  • Meritorious;
  • Honourable;
  • Admirable;
  • Illustrious;
  • Serene.

The Serene Academicians

His Serenity the Lord High President of the Guild, elected from amongst the holders the honour and dignity of the Serene Academicians, is the only member to hold superiority in rank over the Lord High Rector of the Benacian Academy; however this superiority does not confer the power to appoint the Lord High Rector - that privilege belonging to the Congress of Chryse. The Lord High President is not however wholly without influence when it comes to the nominations for this essential post. The grade of the Lord High President is equivalent to that of a Frainan Streïakeï in the Benacian Union Defence Force or a Director of the Honourable Company.

In turn, the Lord High Rector, who may be addressed as His Serenity, holds a place of honour equal to that of a Commissioner in the High Presidium of the Benacian Union. As noted he is directly appointed by the Congress of Chryse and has authority over that institution and it's subordinated entities.

Their Serenities the Rectors of the Benacian Academy, its affiliates, and the Humanist Institutes, are the equals of the Bludgeoner-General of the Corps of the Gentlemen-at-Cudgels.
