The Kingdom of Celebarad (Celebaradian Tiernas Celebarad, or known as simply Celebarad) is a kingdom located on North Island of Feanoria in the Great Western Sea. Since 1723, Celebarad is, together with the Kingdoms of Nidaros and Riskai, a constituent realm of the Three Kingdoms. Celebarad was founded by the Inhabitants of the great city of Dinas Celebarad, after which the Kingdom was to be named. Between 1692 and 1723, Celebarad was a client kingdom of Calbion. Before this time, the Celebradi had been in relative isolation after the collapse of the Menelmacari homeland, and the subsequent subjugation of their land and city by the Vanics. When the Calbain arrived on the shores of North Island in 1692, they allied with the Celebaradi, who had significant knowledge of the mountains and forests of their island, in order to establish their trading ports. In 1723 Celebarad gained full independence. During the Meeting of the Three Kings, the Feanorian Kingdoms united into the Three Kingdoms in which each of the monarchs would govern as First King for three years in roulation. After the uniting of the realms, Celebarad became more prosperous, its political neutrality versus the various feuding power blocs of Micras and its fortidious location on the sea allowing it to attract trade and commerce.

Etymology

The name Celebarad derives from the Menelmacari for Fortified Place of Silver, and is likely a reference to both the silver mines that lay in the North East of the Kingdom, and to the White Fortress of Celebarad. The name initially refered to the city of Celebarad, but gradually expanded to the wider Kingdom, in which case the name has taken to mean Land of Silver.

History

The City of Celebarad was, according to legend founded by King Earion in the year 1000 (also known as time immemorial). During the reign of Earion, it was a blossoming city made out of silver, in which the Gods would live alongside men. The first recorded historical presence of Celebarad is found the 15th century, when the city was part of the Menelmacari Empire. Following its foundation, it became a cultural and economic hub of the country, also influencing and controlling many of the lands in its near vicinity. After the Fall of Menelmacar, the Vanics surpressed the Celebaradi and the population drastically declined. After the Vanics left the shores of North Island, partly due to resistance from descendants of the Menelmacari, the city again gained a momentum to develop. When the Calbain arrived on the shores of Feanoria in the late 17th century, they immediately cooperated with the Celebaradi. The Calbain named the region under their control Y Afordir Corachod, or The Coast of the Elves after the Menelmacari. The Calbain, however, were mainly interested in the trading oportunities that their colonisation of the East Keltian shores provided. In 1712, they gave much of the governance of the non-port cities to the ruler of the city of Celebarad, Thawain, who they also bestowed the title of King of Celebarad. In turn, Thawain and the Celebaradi controlled the entire Eastern and Northern shores of the North Island, adding the previously independent towns and cities to their kingdom. In 1719, the island of Balar offically became part of the kingdom. The same year, King Thawain died and was succeeded by his brother, King Eathel.

Governance

Celebarad is a Kingdom and ruled as an absolute monarchy by its king. Current king is Eathel, who serves since 1719. The King is aided in his governance by the Council of Nobles, who are appointed by the King and serve at his pleasure and dismissal. Notwithstanding the authoritarian nature of the governance of the Kingdom, Celebarad has a high level of civil development and citizens have a high degree of freedom to organise their lives in guilds, communities or Burgherships. The King resides in the Silver Palace, which is also the meeting place of the Council of Nobles.

Nobility and Constituent Ealdorics

The nobility of Celebarad is divided into three trances. The lowest class are the Lesser Nobles, these are prominent families that are bestowed a particular task or have historically held a position of importance in the name of the King. These lesser nobles are also known as Manor Lords, as they have been granted lordship over their holdfasts and manors. Secondly are the Council Nobles, these may also be Manor Lords, or nobles that have granted a bigger fiefdom such as a stewardship over a forest or a particular smaller region. These nobles hold a higher rank due to their presence on the Council of Nobles. Finally The High Nobles, or Ealdor are those Houses that govern constituent realms with some degree of autonomy that make up the Kingdom. These Ealdor are also close advisors to the King and hold positions of governance. There are presently four constituent Ealdorics that make up the Kingdom of Celebarad.

King of Celebarad

The Kingdom of Celebarad was founded by the legendary king Earion in the Age before time. Earion granted the Kingship to his son Finn, who later bestowed the Sword of Kingship to the Menelmacari, who would thereby be permitted to rule over Celebarad but could never style themselves Kings of Celebarad. That honour would only befall the Chosen One who would be crowned from above. In the meantime, Celebarad and the continent of Feanoria have had many rulers.

Below is an overview of the Kings of Celebarad after the ushering in of the Kingdom Era with the coronation of Thawain by lightning. For a full list of all rulers over Celebarad, see this article.

King Thawain.png Thawain The Wise 1712-1717 House of Earion Thawain was Steward of the City of Celebarad and oversaw much of the rebuilding of the city. Was crowned King of Celebarad in 1712 when lightning struck him during a prayer on mount Ailendil. He survived, and this was interpreted to be the coronation from above that, according to ancient legend, would indicate the worthy successor of Earion as King of Celebarad. Subsequently, Thawain assumed the title of King. Not long after, he was granted powers by the Calbain to oversee the government of much of the North Island, which allowed him to control the North East coast of the island. Reunited Balar and Celebarad in 1717 and died of old age in the same year.
King Eathel.png Eathel Bringer of Good Fortune 1717 - current House of Earion The younger brother of King Thawain, Eathel inherited the throne after the death of his brother. His reign saw an expansion of the power of the Kingdom of Celebarad, increased autonomy, full integration of Balar, and the establishment of close cooperation with neighbouring Nidaros and Riskai.
