He served as First King of the Kingdoms for two periods Eathel assumed the throne of Celebarad upon the death of his brother Thawain in 1717. As King of Celebarad, he took initiative in uniting the realms of Nidaros and Riskai with Celebarad into the Three Kingdoms. He also oversaw an expansion of the control of the Celebaradi throughout the coast and the integration of the Inis Balar into Celebarad. Eathel was married to Queen Rihonna. He passed away after a long lasting illness following injuries sustained in the Andilar Wars in the year 1744 and was succeeded by his son Finn as King.
Early Life
Eathel (full title: His Majesty Eathel of House of Earion, King of Celebarad, Ealdor of the King’s March, Defender of Andilar) was born in the year 1660 AN, In Sithril's Grove just outside Celebarad. He was the second born child of Galahad, ruler of the Free People of Celebarad under Vanic oppression and his wife Elara. Eathel was educated by the city's most knowledgeable scholars and mentors. He developed a keen interest in history, strategy, and the arts. Among others, a young Eathel studied with the sages on Penn ar Bed. Unlike his brother Thawain, Eathel showed little interest in martial arts, instead spending his time on learning and the arts. His education was a strong foundation for his future role as ruler of Celebarad.
Reign
Eathel assumed the throne at a critical juncture in Celebarad’s history. His brother, Thawain, had only recently re-established the monarchy after being crowned in a moment of divine symbolism—surviving a lightning strike during a prayer on Mount Ailendil, which fulfilled an ancient prophecy foretelling the return of the true King of Celebarad.
Upon Thawain’s death in 1717, Eathel inherited a nascent kingdom regaining strength and prestige after centuries of subjugation, first under the Vanics and then as a client state to Calbion. His early reign was characterized by consolidation of royal authority, the formal integration of newly acquired territories, and the continuation of his brother’s vision of a unified and sovereign Celebarad.
Under Eathel’s reign, Celebarad has seen an extended period of internal stability and economic growth.King Eathel oversaw the full integration of Balar and the acquisition of the islands of Penn ar Bed, Krufnspire, and the Vraillan Islands following the Andilar Wars, greatly expanding the kingdom’s maritime and resource base. Eathel also strengthened central governance through the establishment of a loyal Council of Nobles, whom he appoints personally. Though Celebarad remains an absolute monarchy, Eathel has allowed significant civic freedoms, fostering a culture of guilds, Burgherships, and community organization. King Eathel has patronized scholars and artists, many of whom draw inspiration from the ancient Menelmacari past.
Throughout King Eathel's reign, Celebarad has maintained a policy of measured neutrality in global politics, avoiding entanglement in the feuds of Micras while leveraging the kingdom’s strategic location along the Great Western Sea to foster trade. His diplomatic hallmark was Celebarad’s central role in the formation of the Three Kingdoms in 1723 AN, alongside Nidaros and Riskai, forming a trilateral alliance in which the monarchs rotate leadership every three years. As First King during the inaugural rotation of the alliance, Eathel played a pivotal role in defining the structure of cooperation between the three realms. His reign has been marked by close ties with both Nidaros and Riskai, while maintaining Celebarad’s distinct national identity.
Andilar War, Injury and Death
As a leading captain in the Andilar war, King Eathel chose to ride in the vanguard and was wounded during in the 1735 campaign by a Black Horde arrow. The arrow, which was rumoured to be poisoned, caused a steady decline in health of the king. His last nine years of his reign were marred by illness, but Eathel took this time to set the affairs of the kingdom in order, and to prepare his son Finn to take up the crown.
As King of Celebarad
Upon the death of his brother Thawain, Eathel inherited the throne of Celebarad. From the outset, Eathel believed that a strong kingdom required more than just physical defenses; it needed cultural strength as well. Under his patronage, Celebarad experienced a cultural renaissance. He invited artists, poets, and scholars from across the Three Kingdoms fostering an atmosphere of creativity and intellectual exchange. Celebarad's illuminated manuscripts, intricate tapestries, and masterful sculptures became renowned throughout Micras.
One of Eathel's first acts as ruler was to launch an attack against Vanic outposts on the island of Balar, and to bring the island fully within the fold of the young Celebaradi kingdom. Eathel was also instrumental in strengthening the bond between the Three Kingdoms, having personal friendships with Kings Audon and Mondo. Under his leadership Celebarad became a prosperous kingdom that sought to extend its influence across the Western Sea. In the wake of the Calbain Troubles, the sovereignty of Penn ar Bed was transfered to Celebarad after negotiations from King Eathel with Prince Jack III.
Personal Life and Family
Eathel married Rihonna Lewis in 1692. Queen Rihonna is widely popular throughout the Kingdom, and renowned for her wisdom and grace. Their marriage was a union of mutual respect and shared values, providing a stable foundation for both their personal relationship and Eathel's rule. Together, Eathel and Rihonna were blessed with six children: Finn, Anduriël, Ioanna, Paula, Morgan, and Isildur.
