Arietta, officially County of Arietta, is a county within the overseas crownland United Government around the Northern Sea, a part within the Frankish Empire. It is located on the Apollonia continent and belongs to what is called "Francia Orientalis".

Francia got hold of Arietta after the transfer of Mittlere Stadt to Elwynn. Only the island with the city of Hrafnkelsðalur is already under the flag of Senya.

Geography

The forests of Arietta

Arietta is bordered on the north by the Northern Sea. Only 60 km (37.28 mi) is between the north cape near Elðgrímskaupstaður and the Storish island of Vinland. On the south side, Arietta borders on the Green. That border is marked by border posts, despite the heavily forested area concealing the transition from Arietta to the Green.

History

Arietta was originally a Landingbergish principality that around 1517 was vested in the Storish High King Harald Thorstein as Prince of Arietta. As such, it is, along with the peerages of Duchess of New Aquitane (held by Kaiseress Salome, currently located in Senya) and Duke of Lükanborg (held by Emperor Nathan II, currently located in Senya) the only remaining Landingbergish landed peerages in existence.

In 1624, Harald Thorstein transferred the principality, including the title Prince of Arietta, to his grandson Thorstein Noah, then Prince (later King) of Elwynn. As such, Noah was now Prince of Arietta, too. At the same time, Noah's father, Hallbjörn Haraldsson, who ruled as regent of Elwynn (as Noah was too young), decreed that all members of the Elwynnese royal family would be titled Counts or Countesses of Arietta.

As part of Elwynn, Arietta, then also known as Sørvinland ("Southern Wine Land" or "South Vinland"), was located far away from the rest of the Elwynnese kingdom. It was regarded as a calm and peaceful bastion of Froyalanism. In 1635, it participated in the Elwynnese assembly elections. The election saw Arietta returning 16 delegates, of which 10 were for the pro-Vanic monarchical party Royal Union, 3 for the oppositional Democratic Alliance, and thereafter 1 each for the oppositional Ayreonist Independence Party, the pro-government Elfinshi Fury, and 1 for the oppositional Nationalist and Humanist Party.

In the year after, Arietta recorded a population of 8,360,025 inhabitants, of which 95.74% were marked as Froyalanish. The largest minority were Elw (2.04%).

During the Elwynnese administration, Arietta consisted of 5 bailiwicks:

  • Álsey
  • Elðgrímskaupstaður
  • Hrafnkelsðalur
  • Hrísar
  • Veiðilendur

When this period ended through the Froyalanish genocide in 1651, Arietta was transferred to Imperial Shirerithian control. Shireroth began decolonising the area (1651), and evacuated the non-Froyalanish population from the territory. Similarly, Liv Dravot, the Imperial Mother and Steward for Kaiser Ayreon IV, renounced Ayreon's claim on Arietta, both territorially and titularly (1653).

Since 1680 AN, Arietta has been under the Frankish flag. Many liberated Froyalaners were given the chance by the Frankish Kaiser to populate Arietta. And many took that opportunity. In 1685 AN Arietta was placed under United Government around the Northern Sea together with the Duchy of Frisiæ.

Princes and Counts

Prince of Arietta

c. 1517–1624: Harald Thorstein, Prince of Arietta 1624–present: Thorstein Noah (according to the Froyalan Tribunal), Prince of Arietta

Note that Shireroth and Elwynn dispute the claim of Thorstein Noah on Arietta since 1651, arguing that the title was held by Vilhjálm, as King of Elwynn, 1651–1653, and after 1653, becoming suppressed.

Consorts

  • c. 1528–1546: Asa (wife of Harald), Princess of Arietta
  • 1633–1650: Noor as-Salaam (wife of Noah), Princess of Arietta
